I think the most interesting thing Google announced at Cloud Next '17 was Cloud Video Intelligence -- or, as I like to refer to it: Ctrl-F for video. The next generation of video-first apps need this functionality.

And, if you want to explore video-first apps I think are interesting today, take a look at:
- Flipgrid.com,
- Catch.team, and
- Velapp.it.

What video-first apps interest you?

Google Team Drives solve a couple of key problems for users and administrators. Definitely worth exploring and using if you use G Suite!

For some orgs, Team Drives may provide the controls needed to finally leave an on-site file server behind.

Seems that high end whiteboards for conference rooms are in demand.

Yet you can get a lot of value from online whiteboard apps that you can use with hardware you already own.

How do you use an online whiteboard?

Here's my take on 4 of these apps: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/google-jamboard-too-pricy-here-are-4-low-cost-virtual-whiteboard-app-alternatives/

In Google Docs, Tools > Explore offers an expanded search experience.

But it replaced Tools > Research, which lots of educators used.

There are a couple add-ons that offer alternatives. But the issue of citation -- needing more than a link -- remains a complex one.

Thoughts?

Fun new-to-me tool discovery: add some professional polish when you stream to YouTube live with Wirecast Go from your iPhone.

From your phone, you can add & resize graphics -- and the size of the video, too.

A nice alternative to just streaming what you see.

Have you used it? Or found other mobile apps that add similar production value?

What app or extension do you use to record your screen?

Openvid worked well for me: Click. Click. Talk and browse. Click. Recording done.

Just a friendly reminder that in case you need to run a Windows or Mac app from your Chrome OS device, you can use a desktop-as-a-service provider:

Need to take notes while you browse? Try Google Keep, instead of Google Docs.

On the iPad, Keep supports both Side View and Slide Over. (Docs doesn't yet.)

On a Chromebook, Keep works great as a narrow column -- with two additional browser windows in full view.

You can now export a Google Doc to EPUB format, which gives readers control over fonts, font sizes, and more. And you can use Google Play Books to read EPUB files.

I explored the feature, and wrote up a few tips for linking within the document. And added in a few other web-based EPUB editors that work on Chromebooks, too.
