Fall Prevention: Bathroom Safety Tips for Seniors

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, persons between the age of 75 and 85 are twice as likely as the average person to suffer a nonfatal injury in the bathroom. So when it comes to securing your elder’s safety at home, give your attention to the bathroom first.

Here are four bathroom safety tips:

1.Install grab bars. Grab bars give your loved one something to grip and anchor themselves with when moving in and out of the tub or getting on and off the toilet. It also enables your elder to catch or brace themselves in case of a fall.

2.Prevent slips. Put on non-slip mats on the floor of their tub or shower. You can also apply non-slip decals to the bathroom tile.

3.Put bathroom essentials within reach. Make sure that commonly used bathroom items like shampoo, soap and towel is within easy reach for your elders.

4.Install night lights. Elders go frequently to the bathroom, especially at night time. Make sure to illuminate their way to the bathroom by installing light in the hallways.

Arthritis Prevention: How to Avoid Achy Joints

Arthritis pain and stiffness, particularly in the joints, set in when the cartilage wears away. There may be no certain way to prevent various types of arthritis from developing, but there are ways you can do to reduce its risk or delay its onset.

Best Care enumerates some of these ways:

Eat food rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
Omega-3 is a healthy polyunsaturated fat. It offers a number of health benefits and helps reduce inflammation in the body. Certain types of fish, like salmon, trout, mackerel and sardines are good sources of omega-3.

Keep your weight under control.
Your knees have to support your body weight. Being overweight or obese makes it difficult for your knees to support your weight. Healthy diet and exercise can bring your weight into the right range.

Stay hydrated.
The cartilage in the joint is made up of mostly water, which makes it a great cushion for the joints. Dehydration causes the water to get sucked out of the cartilage, making it more prone to damage by wear and tear. Keep your cartilage healthy by drinking 6 to 8 cups a day.

Five Mother’s Day Activities to Make Her Smile

“Nobody knows of the work it makes
To keep the home together,
Nobody knows of the steps it takes,
Nobody knows—but Mother.”
-Author unknown

Make your mom happy this Mother’s Day by bringing the whole family together! Here are some fun ideas to do to make your mom feel loved and appreciated.

Take her out on a date. Share a nice dinner at her favorite restaurant. Let her know that she is the highlight of the night. If the restaurant has live music, request for her favorite song and dedicate it to her.

Get her pampered. Give her some relaxation time. Being a mother is not an easy job. She has to juggle many responsibilities like household tasks and being a mother and a wife. It is time for her to destress. Treat her for a massage and a beauty salon.

Cook her favorite meal. The best way to celebrate Mother’s Day at home is by cooking her favorite dish. Add some touches by adorning the dining area like putting some flowers and candles on the table.

Best Care greets all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. Visit us at
