Great book! I bought it and had a quick read. Learnt so much. Great job +Anita Graser and +Gretchen Peterson

If you always struggle to create aesthetically pleasing maps like I do - this book will give you the skills and ideas to make the most out of QGIS's design features!

GIS task for the day: Join a point shapefile with a table using a common field, add columns for X and Y coordinates and export to CSV. I had to process multiple such files with >1M points each.

QGIS - 3 manual steps, a total of 30 mins for each file. Create a model and run a batch job.
Mapshaper - 1 command, 3 mins each! Write a 1 line shell script and you are done...

If you haven't used mapshaper yet, time to give it a spin

Tip: Want to select spatially random polygons in #QGIS? Use this method instead of the 'Random Selection' tool (which uses feature ids instead of spatial distribution for selection)

Catching up on FOSS4G talks. This one is a brilliant and modern approach to orthorectification enabled by open-source libraries such as OpenCV, PROJ4, GDAL etc. and open data such as Landsat and OSM.
