The granddaddy of hipster Asian restaurants, but snarkiness aside, Mission Chinese has definitely grown and matured for the better since it first opened. Yes, you'll have to wait an inordinate amount of time (when we arrived at 6 pm on a Sat, we were told 90 min for 2 people), but 169 Bar is next door, and that is also a very good time (leopard print pool table and T-Rex mounted on the wall, what's not to love?). I inhale Sichuan peppercorns for fun and the food comes out spice cannons blazing, but my favorite dish was actually the (not spicy) bacon rice cakes because carbs + perfect bacon nubs are heaven. Also, the surprise egg dumpling at the beginning, complete with a beautiful lacy starch skirt, was a nice delicate touch. I'll be back, though maybe next time we should order something that's not a meat dish...nah.

They don't take reservations so you are only seated once your full party has arrived. Great bar cocktails and drinks especially the cider. Wonderful service with explanations of every dish. Highlights were the cumin lamb ribs. Delicious and tender. Crispy outside and tender inside with wonderful cumin flavor. Also the pastrami dish which had a nice spicey kick with wonderful wok stir friend veggies. The fried chicken wings were super spicey on the way of blowing out the flavor in your mouth with one tone so to me wasn't a highlight. As well as the mo pa tofu which hinted heavily vinegary which was a bit off putting.

Amazing. totally worth the wait. everything with mind blowing, starting from the see urchin platter, mango salad to fried pork belly (maybe the best I ever had) to their classic pastrami kung bao. will coke back and they everything else. not to mention beautiful decor and atmosphere.

I'm a huge fan of Mission Chinese, and when the Orchard Street location closed I was completely devastated. I'm thrilled to say this new restaurant is not only a better location, but also a better place for Chef Danny Bowien to show off his talents. Every new dish we tried was an example of what Bowien does best - balance the most innovative combinations of flavors and textures. I recommend the Celery and don't skip the Bread Service!

This is not your average Chinese Food. They have a bevy of awesome, four alarm fire spicy dishes, with some non spicy choices as well, though the spice is where they excel. Get there at opening or be ready for a wait, though the lounges downstairs and at the front have some truly excellent cocktails. The old fashioned with ginger is a tangy treat and the coconut scotch is fruity, tropical, and soothing. Do not miss the bread service, a wood fired flatbread served with homemade kefir and buttermilk; save it for cooling off your mouth after the spice dishes. The chicken wings are one of the spicy dishes, but regardless are the best wings ever. They are tangy, crispy, packed with spices and flavor, and pretty generous with meat. The thrice fried bacon was incredible; it's hard to believe bacon could get 3 times better, but this manages to do so. The kung pow pastrami was a great standalone dish with a good balance of peppers, spice, peanuts, and chewy meat. The beer jerky fried rice was good, especially the beef, though the rice didn't pick up a ton of the flavor while cooking. They are still working out some kinks with several menu items already being removed and no dessert menu. Patrons also seem to fail to understand how lines work or that you need the whole party present, so be prepared for a little aggregation. In the end though it is worth it and this Bowien restaurant really plays to its strengths, much more so than Mission Cantina.

Delicious, innovative food and excellent service, amazingly also a good value. Everything was fantastic, but the Kung Pao pastrami was a real standout.
