Wicked Weed Brewpub

Located in a spectacularly renovated art deco building in the heart of historic Asheville, Wicked Weed Brewing is a two level restaurant and brewery with a vast amount of indoor/outdoor space. Boasting a seasonal elevated pub menu, the brewery is a hub of activity that always offers something new to try.

Equipped with a 15 barrel system, brewers keep the flagship restaurant supplied with over 25 house beers. On any given day, the brewpub is serving a huge variety of barrel aged beers, open fermented Belgian ales and hoppy West Coast style brews. Having won a gold at the 2013 Great America Beer Fest for American Style Brett Beer, Wicked Weed has gained national recognition for their sours and wild ales. These beers styles take precedence at their Funkatorium on 147 Coxe Avenue, just three blocks from the brewpub.

Whoa! what an experience. Awesome food in this quaint pub/restaurant. I love Asheville visits and now I'll be adding Wicked Weed Brewing to the top of my list each time I come. Oh, and don't forget to sample the brews!!

Visited on 10/18, and was immediately impressed by the layout and the design of the place. The feel is rustic and modern at the same time. We started upstairs for dinner after a short wait to get in; it was filled to capacity (or at least that's what the doorman told us). The selection upstairs was varied. After dinner, we had another beer and headed downstairs for a couple more, as it had a few different choices than the upstairs did. Overall, from the quality of the food, the variety of the menu and the, let's just call it what it is, greatness of the beer, the experience was great. 5 stars for the product and the atmosphere. The IPAs and sours at this place are off the charts good. The only setback is the borderline rudeness of the bartenders and the distraction of the servers. We had to wait to too long to get our orders in (and we definitely understood the amount of people that were there, the wait was that long). And I get that there are tons of drunks waiting for their next beer, but a fake smile goes a lot further than an annoyed sigh. Don't get me wrong, don't let the servers and bartenders discourage you, the beer and food are that good, just be prepared if you're not wowed by the service.

Had a large group of 8, Hostess was very rude and unfriendly but we decided to stay. After about 1.5 hours and a couple beers we ask the hostess if our table was almost ready and they had already skipped our party by 2 pages and acted like they "forgot". We were the only party on the paper not crossed off .... Finally we get seated in the outside/inside section even though we had ask to be seated inside even if we had to split our party up. Needless to say It was pretty chilly. We all order and our appetizer of calamari tasted like it had been defrosted and heated up in a microwave. Everyone at the table ordered a burger of some type cooked medium and my girlfriend had the buffalo meat loaf. Our food arrived and everyone's burger was cooked well done and my girlfriends meat loaf was very dry and her greens were under cooked. The food was ok at best. The waitress was neither bad nor good. She met the minimum standard. The only thing i enjoyed at the place was the beer. Too bad wicked weed could not show our group a better time. To top it off it was my girlfriends birthday and she wasn't very happy with everything. I will probably not be a return customer considering Asheville has much better breweries anyways.

Food was great, service was great, loved the atmosphere but I did not find a brew that I liked. Sorry Wicked Weed, but everything else was great!

Great food, great beer, great decor, great service, but they have some weird rules about seating. You can only sit at a table if you're eating (not if you just want to sample some beers). However, you can sit at the bar or there's a long "community table" in the middle of the bar area where you can cram in next to strangers and drink. There's a brewery/tasting area downstairs too, but that's only open certain hours. Finally, they reach capacity sometimes, which means they only let people in when other people leave. Odd. The moral of the story is to go early and be clever. We were able to score some sweet seats at the bar and had a lovely afternoon.

I didn't try to food at restaurant but the downstairs brewery is great! Nice open area, good pretzels and incredibly expanded and varied beer selection.

Visited twice and on my third visit was denied entry with my Canadian drivers license. Was told "foreign identification" not acceptable. Was then asked for passport (foreign identification). Asked to speak to manager, to which the doorman replied, "I am the manager".
