I'm extending my Labor Day weekend by a day to spend time with my daughter before she returns to Boston tomorrow. We're stopping to smell the roses and enjoy a little extra family time.

After always driving by the murals and artwork adorning six blocks of a downtown Phoenix street, I decided to stroll through the area and take a closer look. I even found some off-the-beaten-path surprises.

Not the best quality (stopped in traffic during morning commute Thursday) but sometimes you just have to do the best you can when you see something interesting.

Gotta love those Southwestern sunrises (and sunsets)!
Do not adjust your monitor
The colors in this picture are real

Yesterday morning I experienced what I'm calling one of the best sunrises of my life! And it all happened at one of the most awesome places in Utah; Capitol Reef National Park

The Trip
We did dirt road drives up into Cathedral Valley for 2 days including a lot of night shots and timelapses and a couple of great sunrises/sunsets. (like this one) I was with +Michael Bonocore +roma g +Natalia Stone

Edits
I have done minimal edits with exposure, contrast and dodge and burn but there have been NO specific color edits ... I'm certainly not against those types of edits but I just didn't want anyone doubting the awesomeness of the sunset.
In fact you don't get all the awesome colors because your monitor, your browser and the sRGB spectrum won't allow you to see all the awesome colors that were out of spectrum.
OTHERS
I just got home today and there's TONS more to go through but I at least wanted to share this one. From the same sunset just moments later I got both the temple of the sun and the moon. And then I got one with 2 others for a total of 4 of these formations all in one picture. That one will be epic as well.

It turns out the Apple public relations staffers did talk to reporters -- always off the record -- about Mike Daisey, pointing out inaccuracies in his account and suggesting that it was extremely unlikely that one man could have seen as much as Daisey claimed he saw in one trip to China. Among the journalists they warned off the Daisey story were Ira Glass and This American Life producer Brian Reid.

“Being Very Good at Anything Involves Being Somewhat Addicted”: Hard Truth on the Sheer Difficulty of Making an Impact

“Being very good at anything involves being somewhat addicted.”

Bottom line: I am increasingly stricken by the yawning gap that exists between the feel-good, follow your passion, be the change you want to see-style chatter that fills the online world, and the reality of how people actually end up making a true impact.

And the rain has come to the parched "Valley of the Sun." It's the first measurable rain Phoenix has had since December. Oh what a welcome sight (well, except for the granddogs' muddy paw prints everywhere).
