Interesting that Java using green threads actually out performs GO implementation.

The closing comment by Gosling on Oracle's stewardship of Java is pretty revealing: "I never expected them to be anything other than hostile. When I've said on several occasions that I'm happy with Oracle's stewardship, it doesn't mean that they've done like a really, really wonderful job. It more reflects on the fact that my expectations were really low."

JVM is also a host of other languages than Java. But Java with all its warts and all actually hit the sweet spot for complexity of types vs performance.
Update 1: See also the discussion over at Hacker News. Update 2: Sorry for the downtime. Leave it to the distributed systems guy to make his blog unavailable. Nginx saves the day. It's always frustrating reading rants about Scala because they never articulate the actual complexities in the core ...

My Thoughts on Oracle VS Google

Oracle denied that acquired Java with the sole purpose of going after Google. I kinda not believe them. Android was already on the way up when they acquired Java, and it would not have been a stretch to work out the way the market was going. Gosling mentioned that Sun and Oracle had a completely different view point on how to make money. Sun believed by growing the pie, they get more because the pie gets bigger. Oracle believed that they should own the pie. This difference translated in Sun investing in communities, developing a complete new language. Oracle's strategy translated into what we today.

Because of the legal battles with Java, Java could lose out to .net. I think it's possible. Companies don't like legal uncertainty. Google can take the punches, but who would want to base a platform on Java now?

People can be so cruel, like the bully on the playground. No wonder we have bullies, they get their technique from adults.

I really starting to hate +Oracle. Instead of actually having a business plan for Java, they just having lawyers. It seems they are slowly strangling java. As an example, here is a link which explains the issue of handling thread interruptions: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/guide/misc/threadPrimitiveDeprecation.html The removed it, and here is one which actually works: https://web.archive.org/web/20130303204552/http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/guide/misc/threadPrimitiveDeprecation.html

Thanx dickheads.
