"What’s needed now is not more dialogue with Omar or groups like the Women’s March. Rather, it must be made clear that as long as they openly embrace anti-Semitic movements like BDS, there can be no acceptance of them under any circumstances. Anything less is a fatal compromise that gives unwarranted legitimacy to hate and undermines the security of Jews, no matter what political views they may hold."

Yesterday at the pro-Israel protest against UCLA hosting the Students for Justice in Palestine conference I had the chance to briefly interview Ali Adi from the organization Reservists on Duty which is composed of IDF veterans who combat BDS and anti-Semitism on US college campuses. Ali is an Arab-Israeli from a Muslim background. I asked Ali about the common argument by SJP members that they are not against Jews but Zionism. This was his answer:

"Zionism is basically Jews wanting to gain independence and be in charge of their own fate. So they oppose that because they want the Jews to be a minority scattered all around the globe. I can't respect that because we live in a world that every nation wants to be in charge of its own destiny and when they want to take that from the Jews I can't respect that."

Evolution of the alphabet from Ancient Semitic/Hebrew to Modern Hebrew, Greek and Latin. For example El (Ox head symbol) became Aleph in Modern Hebrew, Alpha in Greek and A in Latin or Roman.

"For the first time, archaeologists have released detailed images of stunning biblical mosaics discovered at the site of an ancient synagogue site in Northern Israel."

...

"Experts say that the wealth of mosaics show that Jewish life in the surrounding village flourished during Christian rule in the fifth century A.D. This challenges a widely held view that Jewish settlement in the area declined during that period."

Want to learn Greek. Our ancestors were Greek-speaking Jews in the Mediterranean Diaspora who maintained their ancestral connection to Judaism via the Septuagint -- the translation of the Hebrew Bible into the Greek language by 72 Jewish scholars (6 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel) at the request of Greek King of Egypt Ptolemy II Philadelphus for inclusion in the Library of Alexandria. Pictured: Detail of a second-century C.E. Greek (Septuagint) manuscript of the book of Joshua.

Just finished reading "Jews in the Mediterranean Diaspora: From Alexander to Trajan (323 BCE–117 CE)" by John M.G. Barclay. Felt like I was reading about my ancient ancestors since Ashkenazi Jews descend from Judeans who formed the Roman Jewish community and became Italkim Jews who made their way up the boot of Italy to Rhineland-Palatinate and became the Ashkenazim. Here is a description of the book:

"Most studies of Jews in the period from Alexander to Trajan have concentrated almost exclusively on Jerusalem and Judea. In this book, John Barclay assembles and analyzes evidence about the Jewish communities in Egypt, Syria, Cyrenaica, Rome, and Asia. Barclay's ambitious goal is to describe, as precisely as the evidence allows, the varying levels of assimilation and antagonism between Jews and the non-Jewish communities in these areas for this 440-year period. With a concluding review of Jewish identity in the Diaspora as a whole, this book provides our first comprehensive and multi-faceted survey of Diaspora communities and Diaspora literature."

Greek translation:

από τον John M.G. Barclay.
