The Royals are a classy organization.  I bought tickets to Saturday's game online.  This was to be my parent's first (official) major league game.  It turns out the tickets were obstructed view (alongside the major egress in the upper deck) and also along the busiest set of stairs in the whole stadium.

My lovely wife went to Guest Services to see if there were any other seats we could purchase, but as you probably know Saturday was a sold out game.  Well it was nearly sold-out.  There were 4 handicap accessible seats in the Diamond Club that hadn't been sold.  Guest Services upgraded us to those seats for free and turned a very bad experience at the ballpark into my greatest experience at the ballpark.  It was awesome to watch the game from behind home plate next to my dad.

Thank you to the Royals and the fine staff at Guest Services.

They knew which seats we had right away. I'm sure it's not the first time they've dealt with it. I was most impressed that they still took care of us even with a capacity crowd.

This morning Kris Ketz of the KMBC Channel 9 morning news program (Kansas City) reported on the story that Wikipedia is planning to be blacked out tomorrow. He stated that this was to draw attention to the problem of online piracy. This is a false statement.

The link below explains why Wikipedia is unavailable in the US tomorrow. It's to protest the SOPA/PIPA bills currently in Congress which would make a site like Wikipedia impossible to operate.

Please reshare and contact your congress persons if you want a free and open internet.
To: English Wikipedia Readers and Community From: Sue Gardner, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Date: January 16, 2012. Today, the Wikipedia community announced its decision to black out the En...

They did rerun the story this morning and this time accurately described Wikipedia's reasons as a protest against the pending legislation. That's not exactly the correction I was hoping for, but it works.

Watched Sarah Michele Gellar's new show "Ringer" last night. Better than I expected, very interesting, despite some really bad green screen early on.

The 2nd episode was on last night. Not as good as the first and I feel like the show could end up turning like Desperate Housewives. I thought that show was going to be like Twin Peaks and it ended up being a night time soap. I'm going to give it a couple of more weeks though.

I have a blog that I didn't tell anybody about.

Here's the start of a series about code quality, something I'm passionate about.

I joined the ACLU and donated $35.00.  Until organizations like the ACLU have the clout of a lobby like the NRA our rights will never be respected by our politicians.

http://www.aclu.org/

If you aren't in favor of the broad protections the ACLU fights for then please consider an organization like the EFF which is narrowly focused only on digital rights.

https://www.eff.org/

I believe that secret government surveillance programs are a constitutional violation of our rights as citizens of the United States of America.  The purpose of these programs is to protect the safety of people in America from terrorism, but there is nothing in the technology itself that limits it to that use.  The laws which specify the legal uses of this system are overly broad and the interpretation of those laws appear to be even broader.  It is inevitable that these programs will expand in scope and purpose and that abuses will occur outside of even those bounds.

I prefer to live in a freer world, even if it may be more dangerous for me and those I love.  (note: the efficacy of these programs is disputed, but I think they will get better the more they mature).

Yep, those de-motivational techniques would work.

Hey remember when AVG used to be a good option for a free virus software? Apparently I didn't keep up with the news. Now it's all bloatware. Spent the last hour clearing AVG Secure Search out of my browsers.

Switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. Hopefully that won't head down the same path.

microsoft security essentials. no complaints so far. I saw someone else recommend Avast, but I can't vouch for that.
