I joined the ACLU and donated $35.00. Until organizations like the ACLU have the clout of a lobby like the NRA our rights will never be respected by our politicians.http://www.aclu.org/
If you aren't in favor of the broad protections the ACLU fights for then please consider an organization like the EFF which is narrowly focused only on digital rights.https://www.eff.org/
I believe that secret government surveillance programs are a constitutional violation of our rights as citizens of the United States of America. The purpose of these programs is to protect the safety of people in America from terrorism, but there is nothing in the technology itself that limits it to that use. The laws which specify the legal uses of this system are overly broad and the interpretation of those laws appear to be even broader. It is inevitable that these programs will expand in scope and purpose and that abuses will occur outside of even those bounds.
I prefer to live in a freer world, even if it may be more dangerous for me and those I love. (note: the efficacy of these programs is disputed, but I think they will get better the more they mature).
