Even the stories that we pass off as mere "entertainment" are created out of a preexisting narrative about us and, in turn, re-enforce that narrative. We have to question and challenge how our lives are interpreted and presented by those who do not appreciate the depth and complexity of the lives of Africans, African-Americans and of the African Diaspora.
