Tonight's the night where Canadian hockey fans can unite and watch American teams chase the Stanley Cup. No, Montreal is not going to win it all. sigh Here are my picks, using actual standings for the rank vs. the weird NHL system. #2 Colorado Crapalanche...

NHL: First Round Playoff Predictions - Leastern Conference
Yeah, I haven't been inspired to blog here much in the past few months, but I figure the start of the NHL Playoffs is as good as any to write something. With the Vancouver Canucks having the collapse of the century (no hyperbole here!), I'm more of an outsi...

AdRants: A Big STEAMING Pile!
Poor AYDS! For the better part of the 1970s , Ayds was a successful appetite suppressant product. The candy had been around since the 1940s, and was meant to 'aid' your weight loss in a delicious manner. Then, the AIDS epidemic came along, and Ayds had the ...

Thursday Thoughts: More Stupid Ads!
I love to grouse about advertising, as it seems to be a topic of interest to me, for some strange reason. I'm pretty good about ignoring any ads on websites I visit. As I've been using the internet tubes since the text-only days, I got used to filtering out...

Gene, exactly! My wife does the same thing (opening multiple tabs to read later). As she's deaf, she doesn't realize that there is a bunch of sound coming out of the computer headphones.

I do have Chrome, but don't use it much...let me know if that works.

Canadian Hockey Television Hit by a Nuclear Bomb
Although this news has flown under the radar more than I expected, the news that Rogers Communications has been given a monopoly over NHL programming in Canada is going to have a huge impact on the game in our country. Rogers is paying $5.2 BILLION for this...

1. Sportsnet is the Canucks local broadcaster, but other teams have TSN. You are right in that we do get regional coverage, but I worry that Rogers will use this an excuse to partition coverage even further.

2. HNIC Theme Song - Maybe TSN sells it to Rogers? That said, it doesn't feel 'right' having it on TSN...when I hear it, it just seems so WRONG.

3. It is shocking that HNIC is pretty much going to die. Shame on Bettman for letting that happen. Really, it shows how much contempt he has for this country.

NHL: Yes, The Flyers Are Still Stupid
The Philadelphia Flyers have long had a well-deserved reputation for being a bunch of dimwit thugs. When your team is run by the likes of Booby Clarke and Paul Holmgren, you ought to expect a bevy of bad business decisions. Today's laughable news from Phill...

Strange day as one of my all-time favourite hockey players, Richard Král, calls it a career at the age of 44. The long-time Trinec player is the Extraliga's all-time leading scorer, and ripped up the (admittedly weak) Polish league the past few seasons.

LONG LIVE THE KING!

Quack! The Canucks as Lame Ducks!
I haven’t blogged here in over a month. I promised myself I wouldn’t ever force myself to write things, so I waited until something bugged me enough to write. This NHL season has been strange for me, as a fan.

While I pulled back my emotional attachment in...

Exactly! The problem is that Gillis and the Canucks want to remain competitive, but the treadmill keeps getting faster and they can't keep up

Tuesday Thoughts: Lego, Sriracha, CNN
Most of us remember the fun of building random things out of LEGO, if not the pain of stepping on one of those indestructible blocks. One of my old friends used to (and maybe still does) build whole miniature amusement parks out of Lego, including fully wor...

Well, of course you are likely to build something you've seen or heard about :) I mean, unless you want amorphous blobs.
Then again, maybe you lack the creative gene? (Gene has no creative gene? yuk yuk)  I used to build all sorts of random things, since there weren't really box sets when I was a kid.

Do kids use the blocks to build other things? I'd hope so... at least they are building 'something'. Problem solving is correct.

We were looking at buying legos as XMas gifts, and it finally struck me that I just don't see much in the way of generic lego boxes any longer...all about the box sets.

One other thing: Lego is EXPENSIVE! Real gold bricks are cheaper :D

Blockbusted: Blockbuster Shuts Down for Good

The law is something that the government have to take action on. It has really nothing to do with on-line services. They do what they need to do and the law has to change before they put more effort into things like captioning. I don't think Blockbuster or the movie industry would really do that put of the kindness of their hearts if they weren't legislated to.

Well, automation and technology does have socialogical impacts. It is unfortunate that jobs are lost, but consumers do benefit from technological advances.

Our local mall, but one I would travel to. Brentwood looks quite busy from the full parking lot, but is actually a lot less crowded and full of annoying brats than Metrotown or Lougheed. The Food Court selection is quite good (and not all chains) and there is a full range of shops here.
