Well that's 2017 over and done with! Here's hoping that everybody has a really good 2018.
Here's another look into the past with a photo of what used to be Hillside Stores on Alma Lane (taken back in the 1920''s) nowadays it's the hairdressers Creative Style. Thanks to the Historic Farnham Facebook page for the photo.

Here's another amazing old photograph from the Historic Farnham page - this time of what became Heath End Post Office, taken in about 1912. It became a newsagents and then the Post Office, before being redeveloped into flats. The shop next door became a haberdasher's/wool shop in the 60's called The Red Balloon.
This is also a reminder about the special Alma Xmas Pub Quiz on Monday 18th December - come and give the old brain cells a bit of exercise before they get completely befuddled over Christmas!!

Next Monday night (18th) it's our special Christmas Quiz Night - maximum 4 players per team, £1.00 each for each player. Every entrant will get a complementary glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, as well as a chance to "Open The Box" which now contains over £250 (which would buy a lot of mince pies!)
There's a very strong rumour of a special guest Quiz-master for this special occasion! It all starts at 8:15 pm!

Here's another picture of a lost village pub, this time The Wellington at the bottom of Alma Lane in about 1910 (now Optiplan Kitchens, it was also an off-licence before then). It's surprising how little the layout has changed, except the road surface was probably better then!(lol). Picture from the Historic Farnham Facebook page, thanks.
Don't forget the pub quiz tonight and every Monday evening starting at 8:15.

As we approach November 11th here's a poignant photo of the unveiling and dedication of the Hale War Memorial on Sunday, August 14th, 1921 at 6:30 pm, with another lost village pub in the background. How many of the local families lost loved ones during the wars and what an impact it would have had on a small community like this - and let's not forget those brave souls lost in more recent conflicts.
Many thanks to Graham Varney for posting this photo on the Historic Farnham Facebook page.

The Alma Funday and BBQ, lots of fun for all the family with tombola, ducking stool, face painting, glitter tattoos, bouncy castle, cakes, live music ... and more. It's all in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice... last year we raised over £1200, so let's see if we can do better this time.
