Once again, I've agreed to (temporarily) sit in the editor's seat. Rather than a standard monthly issue though, Bruce asked me to assemble a special volume for release under the Stupefying Stories presents... imprint. We've scheduled the release for early December.

What does this mean? Well, I've been given a slightly larger word-budget, so this will be a longer anthology. The regular +Stupefying Stories terms will apply (see http://stupefyingstories.blogspot.com/p/another-page-with-long-title.html for details), but for me to consider anything for this volume you'll need to pay close attention to the next paragraph.

I will NOT be looking at the general Stupefying Stories slush for this anthology. If you want me to consider anything for this volume, you should send it to me directly:

submissions /AT/ vintageseason /DOT/ com

Please put "STUPEFYING SPECIAL: <story title>" in the subject line, so that your message doesn't get misplaced among the 2014 Campbellian Anthology material.

Any regular Stupefying Stories communications (queries, or submissions that you do not want me to consider for the special volume) are still handled through the regular address.

Submission period: 17 July through 19 October (13 weeks)

Response time: On or before 2 November (15 weeks maximum)

Acceptable formats: DOC, RTF, TXT, or ODT (OpenOffice/LibreOffice), but please do NOT send PDF, or any links to download your story from some other location.

Acceptable lengths: Nothing shorter than 1,500 words, and nothing longer than 20,000 words. (Yes, that is correct. For this issue, I will read up to 20,000 words, per writer. If you send a 20,000 word novella, you won't be able to send anything else. Alternately, you could send two novelettes, or a handful of short stories, or a few short stories and a novelette, or whatever you want... as long as it's not flash, and as long as you keep the combined total under 20,000 words.)

You should send: Stories that are both unusual, and well written. Ideally, I'd like to see those into which you've poured yourself, and in which you passionately believe, but that fall outside what the other markets are willing (or able) to chance with their readership.

You should NOT send: Please don't send anything that has already been rejected by Stupefying Stories, or anything that is currently being considered by another market; I will NOT accept simultaneous subs.

Although this anthology is scheduled for early December, it is not a holiday anthology. I'd rather not see stories about Santa, and Stupefying Stories has already published one Krampus story, so I'm unlikely to be interested in another.

Unfortunately for some of you, I also have an allergy to vampires, werewolves, and especially zombies — spend any number of years assisting a forensic pathologist, and you'll probably develop an aversion to zombies, too — so I'd prefer not to encounter those in the slush.
