One day if I go to heaven…I’ll look around and say “It ain’t bad, but it ain’t San Francisco”.

As I headed out to photograph my first sunset with my new D800 and 14-24, I happen to be driving right by the Scripps Oceanographic Institute Pier, and was remind of the grandfather of photography, Ansel Adams. The clouds were looking perfect and so I figured a modern day reproduction was in order. All opinions are welcome.

While many consider a resort with large pools, waterfalls, cabana's, cocktails waitresses, and scheduled activities their ideal vacation, this is an example of what I consider my ideal vacation. For $50/day you can have your own beach cabin on your own secluded beach. Locally caught fresh lobster can be purchased for $10 a tail. Locals will pick you up out front to snorkel or dive in the pristine reefs just offshore where nurse sharks and manta rays sunbath in the turquoise waters. There is not cell phone service, electricity is only available a few hours a day, and many consider this the last pristine Caribbean island left in the world. Welcome to Derek's on Little Corn Island, Nicaragua. Please don't go here, EVER.

Thought I would share another shot I took in Otago last spring. Some of the most beautiful mountains in the world don't you think?
