Today at Ethika Politika, I take issue with Rod Dreher’s “Benedict Option,” a term inspired by the last paragraph of Alasdair MacIntyre’s book After Virtue. The basic idea is that, due to the Enlightenment, we have lost the social conditions — in particular a shared moral and religious...

Today at Ethika Politika, I argue that despite claims that localism is the most moral response to the challenges of globalization, a cautiously positive appraisal of the latter holds greater potential for moral progress in accordance with traditional, Orthodox Christian anthropology.

Today at +Ethika Politika I review Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

"While Lurhmann’s Gatsby does not follow the slower pacing of the book, it masterfully captures the madness of the era (even casting the narrative in an admittedly somewhat contrived therapy setting), hitting precisely the heart of the time, and I argue, much of what makes Gatsby a perennial classic." #greatgatsby
Luhrmann’s 'Gatsby,' set in the Jazz age yet fueled by hip-hop and dressed in glamorous visuals, successfully makes present this surreal story of madness and disordered hope for America today.
