Instead of presenting the perfect API as a fait accompli, this recent talk showed what we all do when building an API...one step at a time.

Not sure on best practice of what to share here, but here goes anyway. We tried to pick out a few of the blog posts on APIs we most liked throughout 2012:  http://www.3scale.net/2012/12/top-10-api-blog-posts-2012/. I'm sure we missed a lot - maybe we can collect some of those in the comments!

Developer Experience (#devexp) is an aspirational movement that seeks to apply the techniques of User Experience (UX) professionals to the tools and services that we offer to developers.

This Page (managed by +Michael Mahemoff +Paul Kinlan +Pamela Fox and +Ade Oshineye ) is a complement to our Tumblr: http://developerexperience.org/ and Twitter: https://twitter.com/devexpftw accounts.

Add this Page to your circles if you're interested in seeing examples of great developer experiences that we discover. We'll also be using the hashtag #devexp to aggregate what other people are sharing on this topic.

We'd really appreciate it if you'd re-share this post to help other people find out about us.

We'd also love to hear from people who have ideas about ways we can make better use of Google+

API authentication, by +John Sheehan on API UX, a new blog after hearts.

/by +Michael Mahemoff
HTTP API authentication has evolved through many forms over the years. As so-called RESTful APIs gained popularity, a variety of methods sprung up: key passing, plain-old HTTP Basic Auth, OAuth 1.0......

- App.net allowing you to generate a token for your own account without having to go through the OAuth dance

Long gone are the days when users routinely fed their vital credentials to random Twitter mashups. OAuth 2 is really the only sane way for a modern REST API to support third-party clients. Great for security, not too complicated for users, but fairly complex for developers to deal with. So Developer Experience is a challenge here and +John Sheehan has analyzed how the better-known APIs are making it come together, or not.

While testing out a new tool I’m working on that uses a variety of OAuth2 providers and thought I’d catalog some of the quirks I came across. This is just for the authorization flow, not for actually....

A retrospective on Gowalla's API and what it says about Hypermedia APIs by one of the API's architects, Andrew DuPont.

Hypermedia APIs, Part One. Part of me bristles when I hear someone say “Hypermedia API.” I worry it'll become the sort of phrase, like “semantic web,” that means different things to different people, ...
