Wow I loved watching this amazing actor on Fresh Prince growing up. I still watch the reruns. I'm shocked that you're gone especially that a new year has rung in. #jamesavery #unclephil #amazingactor #freshprince #dontleavethisworldwithregrets #youneverknowehenisyourtime #liveyourlifedoingwhatmakesyouhappy

Dennis Rodman: Kim Jong Un, North Korea and me

On the surface, the former basketball player Dennis Rodman seems easy to grasp. He’s a 6ft 8in black guy, with dyed blond hair, pierced nostrils, a pierced lip, and around 100 tattoos, the largest of which is, as he puts it, “a spread-eagled beauty pleasuring herself”. He is, in his own words, “America’s No 1 badass”. So: he’s big, brash, edgy and horny. He says he’s slept with 2,000 women – including Madonna, whom he tried to impregnate. His lived life has been a rolling tabloid pageant – hotels, nightclubs, booze, brawls, cops, motorbikes, doctors, rehab, hundreds upon hundreds of strippers, more hotels – and, recently, increasingly extreme PR stunts. I’m meeting him to talk about his latest, a strange concoction that involves Rodman, an Irish bookmaker and a Third World dictator.

Decent hotel with comfortable sized rooms, although the mattresses were not great. Buffet breakfast was good with a reasonable amount of vegetarian options. There are local convenience stores nearby and a supermarket about 5 minutes walk away. The main city centre is about 20 minutes walk away. The wifi is very good too.

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are of decent size. There are plenty of restaurants within 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The Acropolis and other sights are also walking distance.

Good food at very reasonable prices. All the food is pure vegetarian (no eggs) and there are quite a few vegan dishes too. Staff spoke enough English to explain what the dishes were as all of the descriptions were in Latvian. Plenty of seating upstairs.

Very nice hotel with numerous swimming pools and a private beach. Food is plentiful and there are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options. Most of the restaurant staff don't speak English but they can call someone who does if you need to ask anything. The complex is big and there is a fair amount of walking to do.

Interesting insight into era of Soviet rule over Latvia. The free section is made up of three rooms with photographs and descriptions. This is interesting but it was definitely worth paying €5 to do the guided tour. Much of the detail of what happened under Soviet rule is made up of other peoples' personal accounts. This building was taken over by the KGB and used for interrogations and imprisoning those deemed to disloyal. The cells, interrogation rooms, exercise yards, kitchen have been largely kept as they were when in use up until 1991. The guided tour took about an hour and a half and you can do the free section in about half an hour.
