For anyone wanting to help a bright young man do something good for the world. Here is a great chance to donate a few dollars to a great cause.

You know what will take away good old USA-style freedom? Wonton waste of our resources. You are visiting a city that is fueled by a dwindling river. It's lights, it's water, it's fountains, slot machines, blow dryers, 24 hour a day entertainment, and cheesy jingoistic music all there for the grace of one single over-used and abused river: The Colorado. People may flood the deserts to live there, but the water will not.

VERY good point, aren't nearly all post apocalyptic stories struggling with the lack of resources?

Abiqua Falls is a sacred place - known to few. I was involved in saving the trees from harvest by the state more than a decade ago. If you go there, please treat the area with reverence and respect. Thank you.

Probably known to more then you think... I agree 100% it's a sacred place, but more and more, these beautiful places in Oregon are getting blown out and exploited.  Hopefully the access "payment" to get into these places will keep the hordes out, but frankly once this was publicized I saw WAY more people up in the general area looking for "that massive falls that guy went over" then I've ever seen in that drainage and I'v been hiking in there for years.

I used to live in New Mexico and while I miss it all of the time, at least I do not have to miss the green chile taste unique to that special quadrant of the planet. I started ordering from the Hatch Chile store about four years ago, and each August we wait with anticipation for our large box of Big Jims. That evening, we make a party of it. Beer, wine, and the spicy scent of roasted chilies. Anyone who helps, gets wonderful green chile quesadillas, and are sent home with their own zip-lock bag of green heaven. I HIGHLY recommend this farm's chiles. I noticed this year that both Whole Foods and Fred Meyers in the Portland, Oregon area were selling "Hatch" chiles. I tried them out. They could not compare.....
