Finger Lickin' Barbecue Sauce
May is National Barbecue Month, so in honor of pit masters everywhere we offer this tasty sauce for basting, dipping or topping off your favorite outdoor dishes.

Ingredients:

Makes about 2 1/2 cups.
• 2 cups ketchup
• 1/3 cup brown sugar
• 1/4 cup minced onion
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 tablespoons water
• 3 cloves garlic crushed
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon tomato paste
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
• 1 teaspoon dry mustard
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
• fresh ground pepper to taste
• 1/4 cup whiskey (optional)
In a blender, purée onion and water. Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add olive oil. When oil is warm, sauté onion purée until lightly browned. Add remaining ingredients, stir and simmer for 20 minutes.

Outstanding service. If it's important to you to find something quickly, and want to get knowledgeable help in selecting your purchase, this is the place for you. I've been especially impressed with their service in the areas of mowers, small engine service/parts, tools, and on odd bits of hardware such as screws, washers, nuts, etc. I once went to another store for some specialized hardware. It took me a half hour or more to find the stuff, and then a while longer to stand in line for checkout. That would have all happened much faster at Clarks ACE! The main limitation is limited selection of some kinds of things. In particular, they have very little of what I would consider building materials and in particular they have no lumber, so if you're shopping for a home improvement project, shop elsewhere.

I always go to Clarks ACE for the Benjamin Moore paint. The staff is always willing to help and answer questions with paint type and custom colors.

Yes, the inventory is limited, but the staff is much more helpful and friendly than the big name competitors. I'd rather give this locally owned business my money any day.

I can't believe the positive reviews. Every time I go in there, there are a bunch of clueless teenagers working there. Don't even ask them a question -- they just punch numbers into the register and give you the changes that it tells them to. They might be able to tell you which end of the nail to pound into a board but that isn't even a sure thing. I waited 20 minutes to pay one day while the owner (yes, Andy Clark) walked by twice and said nothing.

I'm in real estate, and I get a lot of keys made. I have to say that Clarks makes best keys in Howard County! They even have the car keys with chips in them, for a lot less than the dealers charge. But really what I go to Clarks for is their help. I'm usually clueless about what I really need, but I have yet to stump the people there. From lawnmower parts to paint, to "Kerf fit" door insulation strips (who knew??!!) to chainsaws, everyone there knows their stuff. Don't waste your time wandering around - go to Clarks and get in and out and on with your day.
