Happy 4th Anniversary to my lovely wife.  We've been together for 6 years actually and it looks like those two years before marriage proved to have proved we were a good match for each other.  Yeah, it's just 4 years, but they have been wonderful years - even with the usual bumps in the road that I am sure all couples face.

According to some newspaper writer the traditional anniversary gifts for a 4th anniversary are linen and silk, the modern gift is appliances.  Being a naughty boy, I did none of the above.  Instead I booked a musician, Mossy Moran, to play at our place for an intimate gathering a friends.  He's part friend as well, but he hung out with everyone and played some great Irish/Folk music.  We've gone to see Mossy around town and have a couple of his CDs, but it was a nice treat having him in person and being able to snuggle with my wife without not having to worry about the crowd at the bar or a static filled sound system.

Good food, good friends, good music, great wife; it all made for a wonderful evening.

Hey all. Colleen and I have just published our first book - you know that one we've been talking about doing for two and a half years. Everything is up online and our proofs are on their way. They should arrive on Thursday. If all is good, we'll give the green light and you can purchase a copy online - unless of course you live near us and can pick up a copy directly.

I finished reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle. I wouldn't describe the book as amazing, but it is rightfully a Newbury Medal winner. The one aspect of the book that I enjoyed most was the frequent use of foreign languages in their native alphabets - I am a linguist at heart. I now have to check with my young friend Emmy (age 10) who apparently is reading the book as well. I'd like to get her perspective on the book.

woot! Our book has hit Amazon - it's like a real thing. Feels almost surreal. (If you do want to buy a book from us online, please do it through Createspace though - https://www.createspace.com/3815042)

Our book, Rosary Illuminations, is now available for purchase online: https://www.createspace.com/3815042

It's been a long haul getting to this point, but it has been rewarding as well. We've taken a ton of photographs, met many wonderful people along the way, and learned more than we ever anticipated when we began this process.

Thank you to every one who has helped and encouraged us along the way.

I had my first official violin lesson Friday. It was all good actually. I was nervous going in seeing as I hadn't really played for anyone in 20 plus years. We covered my goals for playing and talked a bit about style of music (classical). After that we dove in as if I were a brand new fifth grader. Generally speaking my mechanics were pretty good considering I'm self taught. She adjusted my bow hold a bit in the pinky and pointed out my posture was hunched over.

We dove in to book one and flew through a bunch of easy pieces - I played poorly compared to practicing, but tempo was different, and we were focused more on pointing out little mechanical things in both playing and the musicality of the piece. We played a couple pieces together, and the teacher played accompaniment on a couple pieces and I was able to follow along acceptably. It was good to see that I hadn't lost all my music skills.

My next lesson is Feb 10 (the school has break between sessions), so I have 4 weeks to review 12 pieces I already know and add in all the new technicalities introduced, pointed out, or corrected. Plus I have 4 new pieces to learn - two of which are from the new book my wife got me for Christmas.

So I finished DocSavage Meteor Menace book. Overall it was terrible, especially the one dimensional characters. The best part of the book was not actually the book, but when it was written - 1934. You could tell the real world was different then. Asia was still a mystery to western civilization. Automatic machine pistols were just being developed and probably unfamiliar to most readers. Radio controlled machine were only 20 or so years old and probably still novel. Nuclear science was still in its infancy - we hadn't even developed the bomb yet

All of these novel discoveries played heavily in the story, but for us modern men of the 21st century, the descriptions of items and foreign peoples were agonizingly dull. It was however interesting to see what we take for granted these days and realizing how quickly we forget that something was once a new discovery or invention.
