Yesterday's Google I/O 2016 keynote presentation was pretty interesting. Of the products and services introduced, I'm most looking forward to Google Allo (which will support end-to-end encrypted chats using "incognito" mode) and Google Duo, which uses WebRTC for end-to-end encrypted videocalling.

Now that it's known NSA and GCHQ stole encryption keys for millions of phones, Signal offers a secure way to call and text — one that's easier to understand than many alternatives.

Security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski has documented that Apple has deliberately backdoored every single iOS device, allowing encryption to be bypassed and sensitive personal or business data to be accessed. Here's a link to the PDF of a slide presentation that he gave at the ongoing Hackers on Planet Earth conference in New York. The slide photo I've attached gives an overview of the seriousness of the problem: http://www.zdziarski.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/iOS_Backdoors_Attack_Points_Surveillance_Mechanisms.pdf

I went for a walk in the park this morning and took some pictures with my Android tablet using the stock Google photo app.

"The report from the Constitution Project can declare that torture is incompatible with democracy, but it is equally true that if the President can torture anyone he chooses and then walk away – free to attend baseball games, celebrate his presidential library and pose for the cover of 'Parade' magazine – then you are not living in a real democracy."

Excellent app for securing voice calls. And because it uses Wi-Fi or your telco's data plan, calls don't count against your minutes. In fact, you can make international calls to other RedPhone users for free.
Like privacy? Secure your calls for free with RedPhone. It's that simple. R...

I'm trying out a free, open-source secure messaging app called Surespot. It's available for iOS and Android. If you'd care to try it, too, my Surespot user ID is georgemaschke. Feel free to add me as a contact.

Sorry for the late reply. See this article regarding indications that Surespot has been compelled to facilitate government surveillance of its users: https://antipolygraph.org/blog/2015/06/07/developers-silence-raises-concern-about-surespot-encrypted-messenger/

I just bought a ticket to hear journalist Glenn Greenwald speak in Amsterdam about his new book, No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the U.S. Surveillance State. The event, which is hosted by the John Adams Institute, is scheduled for Tuesday, 20 May at 8PM.
The John Adams Institute was established to promote cultural exchange between the Netherlands and America.
