Some of us in New England are smart enough not to put away the winter outfits just because the calendar says "Spring."

Like wise here in UK central heating is still on, jumpers still on, fur lined boots and coats still available at short notice, and the beard stays firmly rooted to the face.

And with a Friday excursion to take photos of squirrels in the Public Garden, I have completed my test suite of the Olympus OM-D E-M1.

The Boston Public Library is always my first stop when I need to learn what a new camera can do and what it's like to shoot with the thing. There are a bunch of photos here that I've taken dozens of times over the years with all kinds of phones and cameras.

And yet if I spent more than an hour here I'll find at least one new shot I hadn't considered before. Half of what I can figure out about a camera comes through in this one session.

This time's different...I'm stuck with this camera!

But hurrah! I'm still in love with the OM-D E-M1. Today's few frustrations were to be expected: I'm switching from a camera that I know inside and out to one that I've been using for less than ten hours. Today has been filled with much "Um...wait, why did the LCD go back to live preview mode? I wanted to dial in a new white balance number..." and such.

Adding to the degree of difficulty: I'm trying not to rely so much on automatic settings. I wanna train myself to always be thinking about every setting. Today I even tried to manually choose the right white balance setting (in Kelvin) for every room I entered. I'm still learning this camera so it was exactly carefree shooting.

Another angle on my favorite piece of public sculpture. I might come back and get this shot again, early in the morning when she's facing the sun.

Introduction
Born in a shipping terminal at Boston's Logan International Airport, Andy Ihnatko was raised by a kindly clatch of baggage handlers and service-cart chefs until he was sixteen years old. It is rumored that he is the Coca-Cola's legendary "shadow keep," a secret third person entrusted with the formula for the beverage's flavor component, and empowered to order the execution of the two publicly-known formulaholders upon the most trivial of suspicions.

He does not own a cat and if he did, it would be none of your business what his or her name was.
