Great piece on people with Aspergers and empathy - what is perceived as coldness is a reaction to excessive empathy. I can relate to this.
“A ground-breaking theory suggests people with autism-spectrum disorders such as Asperger's do not lack empathy – rather, they feel others' emotions too intensely to cope.” “People with Asperger's ...

Who knew? Now I want to find some purple carrots.

Did you know carrots were originally purple, and occasionally, yellow and white? In the late 16th century, Dutch farmers used mutant strains of the heirloom carrot, by crossing yellow and white ones, which gradually developed the common sweet orange carrot we have today.

The purple pigment in heirloom carrots is anthocyanin. Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoid, which give many fruits and vegetables their deep rich colours. They have anti-oxidant effects, and may also have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and even cancer-preventing effects.

Some think the reason the orange carrot became so popular in the Netherlands was in tribute to the emblem of the House of Orange and the struggle for Dutch independence. While this is possible, it also might have just been because orange carrots are sweeter and often more plump.

No Child Left Behind and ESEA (Elementary & Secondary Education Act) are up for reauthorization. The Dept. of Ed is asking for feedback on what you think ESEA should look like. If you don't like NCLB, then think about filling out this quick survey.

I created my first Microsoft Office Mix (a new tool) to create a flipped lesson on Assessing Websites. I also used Doodleinator (really fun app!!!) and a fav - Powtoon. This could be more exciting, but for a 1st go with a tool, it's functional.

I really could have used this a few weeks ago when my laptop got corrupted and took 2.5 weeks to get fixed. Teaching 31 classes/week with my phone. If only I could have projected from it!

I grew up being told never trust the dealer, especially their repair shop. But my dad never met the guys at Koons Toyota. We liked the service department so much, when we needed to buy another car, we went with Koons Toyota. Aria has been our service manager for I think 13+ years. He and his team are amazing. We know that our car is being well maintained. (And my dad taught me about how to fix cars, knowledge I use to know when I'm getting rooked or good service.) Car salesmen will be car salesmen. But if you want to service your car with the dealership, I highly recommend Koons Toyota and Aria and his team! He always goes above and beyond to help us. And as for busy? They are open ALL of the time, Sundays too, so that they fit our busy schedule. No waiting. Yay!

We've been using this cleaners for around 10 years. They use organic solvents which clean the clothes nicely without any of the chemical smell or feel. They know us when we come in and are able to generate the ticket before I can finish telling them what is needed. Good for the environment. Good for the pocket book. And really nice people.

Who would have thought that a "tiny" fender bender from when I started to go when a light turned green but the car in front of me started, then ... stopped???... traveling the distance of a foot or two would cause so much damage. Well it did and my insurance company had a list of approved body shops. My life is crazy busy so I wanted one that was "close." Cherner won the prize! And so did we. They finished the job in half the time they thought it would take. The car looks beautiful. The engine looks unbelievable pretty. And the stupid lurching forward problem that got me into this mess, it was fixed too. I love this place!
