Heavy heart after watching this. Angered too by the brutality. Senseless, irrational and cruel.

Only trust someone who can see these three things in you; the sorrow behind your smile, the love behind your anger and the reason behind your silence.

Elliot M. Katz, DVM, Founder and President Emeritus of IDA is very devoted to IDA’s Guardian Campaign and would like to share his thoughts on how we can better help all animals.

"Several years ago I realized that in spite of all of IDA’s accomplishments, unless we challenged the existing paradigm that sees and treats individuals of other species as “lesser” beings, as mere property, commodities and things to be “owned”, to be bought and sold, enslaved, exploited, abused, and killed at an “owner’s” whim, many of our victories and accomplishments would simply ring hollow."

"I realized it was time for all of us who care so deeply for our fellow beings, to do all in our power to move away from the demeaning, cruel and abusive concept, words and actions of “animal ownership” to one of friendship, companionship, guardianship, and family. For their sakes, please think, speak and act as a guardian; a protector, advocate, rescuer, and adopter of a fellow being, never as his or her “owner” or “master.”

“Imagine two people coming home from work at the end of the day. One of them had a horrible day, is in a terrible mood and his dog will not stop barking. He has a blow torch in the garage. So he restrains his dog on the leash, goes out and gets the blow torch, comes back and burns the dog. The second person is a researcher. And she’s presently engaged in the study about the efficacy of various treatments on burns. And she’s returned from a day at the laboratory where she has restrained several dogs and blow torched them in pursuit of her study. The first person had no real purpose for burning his dog that way and he might be charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the dog. The second person will, not only not be charged, she will be protected by her institution, supported by public tax dollars, rewarded with professional recognition if her results get published. And the rest of us, if we ever hear of such things at all, will be assured that the experiment was humane, just as we are assured by agriculture industry spokespeople that all the things I described a moment ago are humane too.”
Animal law attorney Lesli Bisgould delivers a terrific overview of how our legal system fails to protect animals from the institutions that exploit them with impunity.

I agree on the commonality thing, and yes that is a word. But you knew that. Have a great day.

4 min video about a lady who is 70 but looks younger, due to her healthy habits, possibly low stress, good sleep, good diet, doing what you enjoy, optimism as these factors were shown to delay aging a lot :)

Vegan
Introduction
Vegan, laid back and friendly I’ve been a vegan for four years. In that time I’ve learned some and am always tweaking something. I’ve lowered my cholesterol, blood pressure and weight… Awesome! The crazy thing is that I still don’t know a vegan. Kind of lonely surrounded by nothing but flesh eaters. It wouldn’t be a big deal except that I am not supported and they would love for me to revert… NOT A CHANCE! The fact is that like many other folks, my becoming a vegan really started around wanting to better my health. As I researched, I also discovered how my non vegan lifestyle impacted the environment. And the most disturbing revelation for me was the absolute brutal treatment, abuse and inhumane manner in which these gentle creatures, earthlings themselves are ruthlessly slaughtered for human consumption. My heart breaks when I pass by these innocent creatures getting fattened. Or the chickens crammed into those horrible metal cages. Scared cattle and pigs. I have to stop cause it really works my conscious. I not only feel remorse for at one time contributing to the madness, but for what they still endure. For the time being I continue to learn what I can, but would love to make a vegan friend or two. Learn more from actual human beings. That would be neat. Namaste
