Someone just dumped three puppies off on my yard. Look. I get it if you can't care for animals but for the love of all that is good in the world don't just dump them off in a random neighborhood. Call around to see what the local animal shelter situation is.

And if you have pets GET THEM FIXED SO YOU WON'T END UP WITH A NEW LITTER EVERY SIX MONTHS.

All three of them look like lab mixes. Very sweet tempers, calm. So very least til I can get them re-homed they aren't eating the furniture outside.

Writing Prompt: Create a Mythic Tale

Figure easier to get back in the habit of writing by doing these writing prompts found on Reddit. Generally the responses don't need to be long and the prompts are 'off.' Something as simple as 'you are Hitler's reincarnation and find this out along with the rest of the world. Now what?' or as complicated as 'Death will give one thing to you that he has taken if you will do Death a favor.'

Here is my response to a prompt asking to create a Myth.

--------

A fire crackled and burned fitfully as the village's shaman gathered the young for their nightly lessons. As she looked at the children she smiled, remembering the might this tale had been passed onto her in the same way she would pass onto them.

Long ago, in the time when the Gods would show us their will with starsign and portense, before Ariel the Liberator slew Oren the Starclad Emperor. Before even Oren the Starclad were the manimals. Heathen beasts that walked on two leg yet had stone-tough skin, and an angry heathen blood-lust for man flesh.

In those dark times the People of The Three Brothere were few. Sítleberm's People thought high thick walls would save them, so grew lazy. Ōgalthêst's People thought safety was in staying on the move and so never were able to grow mighty. Ūghær's People, thinking if they were unseen they would weather the Manimal scourge, yet while they grew mighty in their mountain hold they grew scornful of the Light.

Each of the Three soon fell. Mighty walls of fire-brick crumbled. The scattered settlements tracked. Only the Mountain Hold was safe from the Manimals bloodlust, yet their pride and scorn of the light lead them to become something other than Man.

Their greed lead them to dig ever deeper. To horde more and for little reason other than that they could. It became such that in the years before he became the Starclad when Orem sought to unite the People under his banner he found not Men under the Mountain but Demons. Stone skinned beasts that lusted only for metal and gems so that they might build their Great Engine.

Yet even whitg Oren's revultion He entered their mountain hold. He broke their thane's back in view of their great hall. He smote their champion's ruined body and scattered it to the hot blood of the earth so that these Demons could not revive him with their alchemy of Gear and Gem.

Yet even as the Demons fled and the deepest of their tunnels sealed so that their mischief could not trouble the remaining People Oren turned his attention to The Engine. It was a foul device that sounded like a leashed thunderstorm that never wandered. Its lightning spewed out unto other Devices and Alchemical Works that Orem studied. These were made by Demon hands, but they themselves were neigher fair nor wicked. In his wisdom Oren brought scribes and soothsayers to divine their purposes such that more could be made.

And though the Mountain Demons were no longer Men their works helped when the hour grew dark and Man needed a miracle the Gods themselves had chosen to with old. These Divices, animated by the Engine's lightning scythed through the manimals as if they were stalks of wheat. Weapons forged by these demonic creations were stronger even than the skymetal sword that would one day end Oren the Starclad's rule. That inhuman strength was needed in those days for it was that ceaceless motion and unending power that turned back the black tide and gave Man a chance to grow as the Gods intended.

Thus is why even if a man be your enemy. Even if he be repulsive you heed his words. You consider his worth. Even those may one day be what saves you.

I am going to try this on my Cr48. Should be interesting to see how well it runs.

Good. Keep the pressure up guys. Sure I'm typing this on Google+, but Google seems to have a very take it or leave it approach. It's up front about what it is, but happens to offer a lot of useful services. It's not claiming to be The Internet. Just a way to interact with the internet.

I could be willfully blind though.
Eli Fennell originally shared to Technology:

Internet.org Under Heavy Fire

Facebook's Internet.org, a mobile platform providing free access to select internet services for wireless users in developing markets, has had a rough month. First the service came under fire in India as part of a growing Net Neutrality movement. Then it received criticism from Latin American activists just as the service began to roll out to new Latin American markets.

In response, Facebook pledged to make Internet.org more of an open platform for services with very low data usage. That plan has yet to take shape clearly, but before it will get the chance, the company is receiving renewed criticism from advocacy groups in 31 nations.

Their complaint, in plain language, is that while Internet.org bills itself as a philanthropic service to connect more users to the internet, their approach has been opaque, seemingly arbitrary, and blatantly self-serving. Among the 'Must Have' apps for developing markets according to Internet.org is, of course, Facebook itself but no other social networks; Bing but not Google; and a small Indian job search app instead of their market leading competitor, to give a few examples.

Advocates are pressuring The Social Network to adopt a more neutral stance, which does not create 'Free Lanes' and 'Paid Lanes' on the internet, undermine internet security by abandoning HTTPS just as it is becoming standard, or capture all user data through a Facebook proxy, all of which are problems with their current offering. Of course, such a deal wouldn't guarantee funneling Internet.org users through Facebook itself, undermining their short-term profit potential.

It remains to be seen if Mark Zuckerberg, who maintains that Free Lanes and Paid Lanes don't contradict his support of Net Neutrality, can put aside immediate profit motives to put his money where his mouth is and truly invest in the growth of the entire internet and try to win fair and square, rather than by hook or by crook.
Advocacy groups around the globe say Internet.org violates the principles of net neutrality and exacerbates inequality.

True, but I want to at least admit that I am biased in the matter.

Verizon to buy AOL for 4.4 Billion and this is a Bad Thing

Verizon will now own a bunch of news sites.

Huffington post. Engadget...Techcrunch...

Sites that reported on the Snowden NSA scandal and or the Net Neutrality problem.

When Verizon launched its own tech news site, it banned all mentions of net neutrality and NSA surveillance. Take away news willing to report and turn it into a mouthpiece to say what agrees with your worldview rather than what you view in the world.

This does not give me reason to be encouraged.

Scuttlebutt I've heard says they're going to spin off the news sites because they don't actually want them.

Pretty sure Steve here was faking not being able to lift it. You're either Worthy or not. Far as I know in the comics there never was a 'sorta' worthy, and even when nonworthy things could lift it that was the hulk using everything he had and he could barely control it.

+Andrew Singleton OOOooooooooo. i LIKE that idea. It would perfectly fit his "I'm really from the 50's and an ultra nice guy" vibe if he decided he COULD move it, but didn't to avoid punking Thor.

Nice idea.

Green Ranger vs Ryu

OK let's set aside the fact the thumbnail shows scorpion (hope that gets fixed) that was well done. High production values, good stuntwork, and just if eight or ten year old me had seen that kind of effects or even that quality on the green ranger suit my jaw would've gone through the floor.

Look I might feel Tommy Oliver as a character got overexposed to the point of basically it turning into a show all about him, but the actor is a class act near as I can tell. Gotta respect the guy especially for keeping in shape this entire time.

Bit of an odd spot for me now that I have a 'new' computer.

Finished with setup on my 'new' computer last might. Everything is how I want it more or less and it runs nicely. The 'now what?' Question has set in since I've had to make do with an even older and pokey machine before then or very /very/ underpowered laptop with a rapidly deteriorating keyboard and spotty WiFi.

The 'new' machine is straight from 2007, runs vista and has Intel graphics, yet it's got three gigs of ram, a decently sized hard drive, and is a dual core box. So in theory with a decent video card it can stay relevant for awhile yet.

I don't do much gaming though so it's more 'I finally have tools and space enough to do things in but my creativity has gone poof.'

Code is not something I've had luck with. For some reason my brain borks when doing more than cut/pasting script chunks or editing variables in existing material.

Could try the following:
Make a gopher server.

Make a WiFi hotspot that directs you to a landing page and provide a way for everyone to get local information even if the actual internet is down. If I could get a second WiFi antenna it could even pull things from the internet.

Write. The problem here is getting back on the horse. Been awhile and discouragement is everywhere. I have ideas, but no real urge to get past the idea stage because 'why bother' sets in.

Pick up doombuilder and try my hand at level editing, or frankly any game editor be it inform7 for text adventures, or gtkradiant, or UnrealEd.

Try learning/working on HTML. Because neocities is a thing so why not?

Pity they're going out of business at the end of March. In spite of always being busy they don't meet the corporate model for profitability. Leaves us with Walmart basically.
