Axis Faction Turn for November-December 1941. The Japanese initiate East Wind Rain, launching a surprise attack against the American Pacific Fleet and British Eastern Fleet. (This sends both fleet units to the Naval Warfare Delay Box, which is nasty for the Western Allies.) Japan declares war against the Netherlands and Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces storm ashore on Borneo and at Batavia. An SNLF detachment also seizes Wake Island from the Americans, while a larger force launches an amphibious assault from Saipan and captures Guam. Meanwhile, the 1st Fleet brings several regiments ashore at Aparri at the northern tip of the Philippines. More units prepare to disembark behind them.

On the mainland, several Japanese armies with support from the 1st Air Force and artillery from a headquarters unit, slam into the Szechuanese 2nd War Zone. The Chinese troops are sent reeling back to Chungking, and the 5th War Zone is caught up in the rout. The Japanese 23rd and 11th armies, with artillery support, destroy the British garrison at Hong Kong. In Indochina, Japanese troops assemble in preparation for an invasion of Siam.

Set up the final training scenario in Dai Senso, Tora Tora Tora! Lots of pieces on the board this time. I'm interested to see how the game handles Pearl Harbor.

Learning the Axis Empires system. Played the second learning scenario in Dai Senso, the China Incident. Japan easily won the scenario - the Chinese can't effectively counterattack without the Nationalist HQ, which didn't come off the turn track until the last turn of the game. Suboptimal play on my part for the Chinese didn't help either!

Got in a game of "Into the Bastards!" with +Scott Mob. Fun, fast game that gives a good sense of trench warfare and creaky old tanks, without feeling stagnant. It was my first WWI game and it's opened my eyes to the era. Definitely looking forward to more WWI gaming!

Thanks to its excellent keyboard and long battery life, Lenovo's ThinkPad E450 lives up to its brand—although its speakers and screen leave much to be desired.

Want to keep an eye on your abode from anywhere? Wi-Fi security cameras are easy to set up; can stream video to your phone, tablet or PC; and will send you notifications if they detect motion or loud noises. Most cameras also provide automatic motion-activated recording and night vision.

We tested several of the best cameras on the market and rated each based on its performance, ease of use and affordability. Based on these criteria, our top pick is the Dropcam Pro from Nest ($199 on Amazon).

Add a column. Insert clip art. Track changes. Execute a mail merge. Those are just a few of the classic tools available across the many generations of Microsoft Word. The world’s most popular document editor has been the document-editing standard for decades, but that doesn’t mean it’s rusty or dusty. Microsoft Word 2013 has plenty of  tricks to liven up your docs — perhaps you’ll embed an online video into a report, or replace hokey clip art with pictures from your personal SkyDrive album. Here are five cool things you didn’t know you could do with docs in Microsoft Word 2013.
