What kid/adult doesn't want to be able to build a paper airplane and then FLY IT with an engine, controlled by your smartphone!?!?!? Let me tell you, THIS kid is getting one. :-)

Really fascinating article for those developers out there interested in what it takes to code for space flight.

Excellent solution for people would bought Wifi only devices, but now want some GPS turn by turn mapping love.

This new board would make a perfect device for kids/schools to get to get people playing with software and hardware. One of the stumbling blocks I initially had was not knowing what sensors to get or integrating them sometimes....this has everything you might need in one tiny package. Once you master the basics, upgrade to a board that meets your project needs if this doesn't cut it anymore.

Another puzzle piece fitted in. When algorithms like this are integrated into more of the free/inexpensive 3D modelling tools, combined with improvements in things like 3D Scanning (Kinect...) we're truly going to be at a stage where replicating replacement parts for household items, printing off lamp shades, kids play structures (like tables/charis/kitchens) is going to be very straight forward. I imagine it will drive a rebalancing of the effort/cost/customization ratios of desire that people go through when thinking about products.

Good stuff. Accessible/affordable education just keeps getting better and better thanks to contributions like this.

I can't help but think that emergency crews could benefit from using off-the-shelf systems like this to asses everything from the scope and exact positioning of fires, or collapsed structures.

Once again xkcd actually exposes a traditional and altogether too frequent a trap for people performing analytics on their business and sales. A much more difficult exercise, but try mapping relative sales conversion to the city population. Do you actually have a higher conversion rate, or successful brand exposure in rural markets now? Maybe, maybe not, but it'll sure show you where your marketing dollars are best spent.

Huzzah! It won't be long before parents will be printing out Barbies, Bratz, Rescue Rangers, Power Rangers, Smurfs and every DC and Marvel super-person in existence at home. :-) I will of course be first in line.

I like that we're moving toward greater availability of consumer level materials that can be used in 3D printing. I have quite a ways to go before I venture into things like this, but from pancake batter, to PLA/ABS and now more "natural-like" wood/plastic combinations, it really holds a lot of potential for creating ornamental or functional elements at home.
