Having an experienced hardware division through this acquisition is a step forward in Android becoming an even more dominant platform than it already is.
Being able to release your own software on your own hardware, means that less errors/bugs and better optimized software! Sounds like Apple? Definitely, but this is where Apple shines: besides the great UX that the OS delivers, it's also a 'fixed' combination of hard- and software which makes it easily releasable...
Google now also owns several patents that it might be able to use in their fight against Apple. Apple has shown over the last couple of weeks that it wants to duke it out in the patent-scene. Well Apple, here you go: Google's gunning for ya!
The question now remains how other hardware manufactures will respond to this acquisition. Google says that Android will stay an open platform, but it will have to show the bigger partners (Samsung, HTC) how they will ensure an optimal operability...
I sincerely hope that Google will remain dedicated to keeping it an open platform and lending third party hardware partners great support.
This could mean that we have even better GoogleMoto phones for Android and still the great choice that we have in hardware right now...
I'm definitely curious to what this marriage will bring... How about you?
Apparently, both Samsung and HTC have responded very positive to the acquisition. To them, it's the confirmation that Google is commited to Android the creating the dominant platform...
