- KMBC 9 NewsAnchor
To most of Kansas City, Kelly Eckerman is a KMBC 9 News anchor and reporter. That's been her title for more than two decades. But the title she's still most proud to wear is Mom.
"I've been blessed to have a challenging career. But, when it comes to feeling important, it's my two daughters who make me feel like the most important person in the world." Aubrey (12/95) and Sadie (11/99) have a way of reminding me of what's truly important, and help me put things in perspective as I cover the news."
Born in Russell, Kan., Kelly said knew she was headed for a career in journalism. She thought it would be as a print journalist, though, because she enjoyed being editor of her high school newspaper. But, she fell into a TV career instead and worked at various stations in Iowa and Illinois before coming to Kansas City in 1990.
Kelly has won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for her reporting, and is a two-time Emmy winner. She's also won various state and regional reporting awards. Kelly works with numerous charities throughout the year.
