Their grits are seriously the best I've ever had. So fluffy and tasty!! Generally quick service though they tend to not pay much attention to you(or more to the point your beverage needs) after they've served you food and you say everything came out fine.

Quality food at a reasonable price. A true Blacksburg institution.

I went to this cozy place right after a long night. The breakfast food was filling and unique. The potatoes are amazing as well as their buttery take on loose cut grits. You can score a mound consisting of potatoes topped with three eggs, a biscuit, grits, and a fresh squeezed lemonade all for less than $10.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Blacksburg. Never go here when you are dying of hunger, because you will wait about 40 minutes for your food without fail. The service can be kind of bad, but if you come regularly and tip well, they will take care of you. Sometimes the bands on Friday and Saturday nights suck(although on Fridays they often have this one bombin' guitarist) and are too loud. The dinner entrees are way overpriced for what you get. The lunch items-soups, sandwiches, chili, etc. are excellent and cheap, and many of them are available at dinner. The breakfast is really good, although I think the biscuits are overrated(I make better ones). Also, they always have different desserts that are made next door. No freezer pie. The beer selection is very reasonable and the limited wine selection is palatable. They have the best vegetarian food in town and they are almost always open. Love 'em.

I love what looks like Gillies brand promise - respect for the body, respect for the earth, respect for each other. Sadly, the brand is not reflected in the way customers are handled. I am not familiar with Gillie's methods: * you must put your own name on the sheet to get a table * you must read the verbiage at the top of the sheet which tells you to wait out side to be called * you will not get another clue as to the process, though myriad servers will walk around you. They will not tell you that you must be outside. * if you do not hear your name called, you will be treated badly - dismissively and disrespectfully. This happened to me on Saturday 5/30/15 at around 9 in the morning. The manager played a nice game of "gotcha" reminiscent of the soup nazi. He was far more concerned with feeling superior and being unpleasant than with retaining a customer. Sadly, as I love the food, I won't be back. Katrina VanHuss, Richmond VA

Having been to Gillie's numerous times and enjoyed great brunch I'm sad to say I will never go there again after this past Sunday. I was in Draper at 1:15 Sunday and called to see if my 2 friends and I would be seated if we arrived before 2 pm when they closed. The lady I spoke to assured me if I arrived at 1:59 and there was no wait we would be seated. We hopped in the car, parked and arrived to Gillie's at 1:55 and asked if we could be seated. A young girl said that they had stopped seating at 1:50 today, I explained to her that I called earlier and was assured that if we arrived prior to 2 pm we would still be seated and that if this was not the case then we would have stayed in Draper. She began to state that we would be seated when a boisterous curly haired gentleman stepped in and pretty much told us that they were busy earlier and now did not want anymore customers. After a short discussion I came to realize that even if we did the opportunity to sit and eat my friends and I would not be guaranteed that reassurance that our food or service would be respected. So we chose to eat at Boudreaux's and had a wonderful meal and respectful service. I don't typically take the time to write a review but to tell someone that they should make the 40 min drive to eat and would be served then go back on it because "we were really busy earlier" is unacceptable. where I work we have hours of operation, if someone comes in the door prior to close we will accommodate them and treat them with as much respect as if they came in right when we opened. Especially if they called 45 min prior and asked if it would be ok to come at that time. I love the food at Gillie's and I've had many great experiences there however I will never go back after the treatment I received this Sunday and the undeserved illogical disrespect from their curly haired waiter. Clearly work ethic and dignity is lost amongst this establishment.
