The ZSI is not exactly a paragon of biological science. Although fully government funded, their research publications sit either behind expensive publisher-owned "pay"walls or are completely inaccessible behind their large red-tape and government bureaucracy. Their science has been questioned earlier for poor quality and the collections they maintain are in pitiable and unknown conditions. See http://www.daktre.com/2014/07/afrindian-mammals/

Nice! Social networks are indeed here to stay. But I believe the "rules of enganement" between users and such networks has just begun to evolve. See for example the latest study published by fb, with a blatant and unethical use manipulation of user interaction! Orkut was a child of the early days, passing away before the power of networks was fully realised. The real struggle for autonomy and privacy starts now.

On another note, you heard of this phenomenon called "fear of missing out", FoMo? Something there that is driving these thriving social networks. Anyways, nice read!

Hmm....appreciate your love for telegram and all, but how does one get on to a not-yet-so-popular messaging service, especially when most of one's friends are not (yet) on it. You see the conundrum?

Hmmm...you are really giving me second, third and nth thoughts on FB now. I have been an early adopter of both Orkut and FB and I am not sure whether it is the stage (my) life or stage in the life of social media (or both), but I have reached some sorta tipping point. Might just plunge out of FB soon....hopefully.
