I had an issue with the link to the video in the last paragraph, but found the video on YouTube.  Good stuff!

A teacher friend working on a cool startup idea really needs survey responses (60 sec). Please pass along and ask others to help. http://tinyurl.com/junelabssurvey

A month from today is my birthday, and I'm writing to ask for a gift.  A bit crass, perhaps, but hear me out.

NextVista.org is my little effort to save the world from ignorance, one short, creative video at a time.  I've been at this for about six and a half years, and while there's still a lot of ignorance out there, we are helping loads of students and teachers celebrate creative approaches to learning about challenging topics in school, perspectives of young people around the world, and the joy and meaning that come from helping others.

As part of our efforts, we are working on a project to help students near Colima, Mexico, who come from serious to extreme poverty develop skills for their futures.  The organization we're working with is Project Amigo, a team that has done amazing things over the past 25 years to help these students get an education.  Our work together is to help scholarship students in their program create videos to help other young people around the world with their education.  In short, we want these students to create, and thereby understand how much they have to give others.

The birthday gift I request is a donation to this effort.  The money won't pay for the trip (that's already covered), but instead, it will help us buy simple cameras and microphones to help them make the kind of fun, educational videos we highlight on our site.  Even a small donation of $5 would be great.

So, for my birthday, and as a way to help motivated, positive, and clever youngsters create videos to help others, I ask that you click on the link below and please toss a little our way via the PayPal link.

A Vista for Literacy

Thanks!

P.S.  If all of this looks especially cool to you, please consider sharing the request with a friend.

Did this video several years ago, but at this time of year, it's nice to bring it back up to celebrate what some people do to make their communities better. If you know someone like this whose story could inspire others to give their time or talents, please let me know, and I'll work with you to get it highlighted on NextVista.org. Here's Tom Goodson's story: http://www.nextvista.org/you-are-all-winners/

Hi all! I'm intrigued at the effort, and have what is hopefully not too optimistic a hope that I can catch up! I am a former high school teacher (Japanese language) and principal (online high school), and now run the educational charity Next Vista for Learning.

+Daniel Bassill  I'd be interested to connect with you about ways that the students in the internship program can create material to encourage/inspire students in other places. Are you working with this program directly?

Very nicely done, Rushton. They were able to introduce the key concepts in interesting ways and keep it to a short video to maintain interest. I liked the effect at the end of the river as background and the credits receding as if the river were carrying them away.
