We are thrilled to announce a new corporate design for the MUTEC brand today!

It was the year 1989 – the first Love Parade draws a crowd of about 150 ravers to Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm laying the foundation for years of techno revolution to follow. The very same year Christian Peters, CEO of MUTEC GmbH, registered his business for the first time with the city of Berlin. Together with a classmate of the time, an audio engineer at the former Teldec studios in Berlin, he was musing about the appropriate name for the newly conceived company in his home’s party room. From the start it was clear to them both that the brand name should symbolize the liaison between music and technology. So the name and its maiden spelling came to be: Mu-Tech.

It was Christian Peters himself who constructed the earliest company logo on a drafting machine during his studies of crafts and electronics. Later on in the 1990s, the logo was reworked by a local design agency and the name was changed to the current MUTEC version to reflect the international commercialization of the brand on a visual level. Today, about 28 years later, MUTEC is getting ready for the next evolution of the brand:

"After more than 15 years with the same design we felt it was time to update the face of the brand and give it a more contemporary look that better communicates our brand values of precision engineering and high-quality sound." - Christian Peters, MUTEC CEO

The new design is a more elegant, more focused approach to the brand. Yet, it represents an evolution of the previous design that is instantly recognizable and can coexist with existing design elements. Apart from the logo mark, the headline font, and the expressive red swing, the corporate design refresh will also introduce updated product logos and front panels of existing MC series products. Starting with the critically acclaimed MC-3+ Smart Clock USB these units will be gradually changed to updated front panels. However, there will be no functional differences of these updated products.

Our latest customer story comes from "JMN" in the United States, who has just reached the next level towards audio nirvana. The MUTEC MC-3+USB and its latest firmware update was instrumental to revealing the flaws in his system:

"I first traded in my Magnepans for +FOCAL Listen Beyond Electra 1038BEs. I needed to hear more impact, something only a dynamic, cone driven speaker could deliver. Remember, this was all initiated as a result of the MUTEC MC-3+USB. Without the effect it had on creating a pure, defined, natural sounding signal, it wouldn't have been worth upgrading my system in hope of gaining perfection. So not too long after, I traded in the +Pass Laboratories X250.5 for the much superior X250.8 as well as upgrading the XP-10 to the incredible XP-20 Pass Labs preamp. Cable upgrades also took place. So here I am on a Saturday morning listening to music with articulate impact, deep and wide sound staging and imaging that I could almost touch. Perfection. Yes, it was an expensive undertaking, but well worth every cent. The MUTEC was the catalyst, the impact it makes at the very beginning of the signal is essential for the entire sonic chain and I couldn't be more satisfied with the discovery and purchase of it. So does the firmware update sound better? All I can say is I don't think it could sound any better than this, but with the brilliance of your engineering skills you just might surprise me if you have any more firmware updates in the works. Thanks again for all the pleasure and satisfaction.

Even if I had $150k or more to upgrade my system, I absolutely would keep the MUTEC MC-3+USB at the beginning of my audio chain, no question about it!"

For whom the clock tolls - the MC-3+USB reviewed

Many audiophiles - including the editors at Hi-Fi News - believe that USB, while convenient, plays second-fiddle to S/P-DIF in sound for audiophile playback. Can MUTEC change that perception? Follow the link to find out!

Just got your head round the simplicity of connecting your computer to a DAC? Andrew Everard explains why the reality may not be quite as simple and how the MC-3+USB comes to the rescue in his review in this month's issue of HiFiCritic Magazine.

His summary: "I have tried various programs to convert DSD to 176.4kHz or 88.2kHz 24-bit files [...], but somehow such conversions don’t sound as convincing as those processed through the MUTEC. Put simply, this little unit gives the sound more punch, more conviction and less ‘grain’, revealing more detail and ambience, better slam in the bass, finer textures in bass strings and drums, and just that bit more character on voices and lead instruments. What’s more, trying it with a variety of DACs able to take USB input reveals that even with 16-bit/ 44.1kHz CD-quality files (not to mention higher- sampling-and-bit-rate PC content), it manages the same trick of making the music sound more natural and less mechanical."

Since many customers of the MC-3+USB like to use the device predominantly for computer audio playback from Mac or Windows systems we have now published a quick start guide for this specific use case. In little more than a single letter page the document guides you through the setup process as quickly as possible. The guide has been added to the top of the product manual, but it is also available for download as a separate PDF for both Windows and Mac. The document also comes in German and English languages. What better things to do in the weeks before Christmas than to relax on the couch with the latest issue of +FIDELITY Magazin, a cup of something delicious, and some good music in the background? We're currently busy doing just that and are excited about a brand new review of the MC-3+ Smart Clock USB in the current issue #29.

Its conclusion: "There are some audio devices that demand a purchase just because they are so unique. The MUTEC MC-3+USB is this kind of device. Once you've experienced it there's no turning back. Because not the heart beat but the MUTEC is the clock reference."
