I am working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist, in private practice in Champaign, IL. I also spend time supporting and advocating for the children and the families that I am involved with. I have been a supporter, educator, and trainer of what have often been considered "innovative" therapies----using voice output communication and other assistive technology, feeding and oral motor/placement therapies, Fast ForWord, social skills training and intervention, etc. In my past life I worked as an SLP in medical settings with babies in NICUs, kids with complicated medical issues and on multi-disciplinary teams. I have been blessed to live in a community where I could continue to learn and thrive.
I have a great husband (Brian Dampier) whom I greatly admire for his tenacity and passion. After being an award-winning journalist in Chicago TV, he became a professor at the UIUC, and THEN went on to law school in his 50's.
Our son, Paul, graduated from Uni HS and Grinnell College in Iowa---they were both wonderful matches for him. He is now living in Philadelphia, trying to find a way to get paid to do something in the film industry, and supporting himself by working in the food service industry.
I am blessed with wonderful family and friends who have supported me so many times--usually when I was refusing to acknowledge that it's ok to get help. Thank you!
