Client: Calma Ventures
Year: 2018
Space Design: Francesc Rifé Studio
Photography: David Zarzoso / Convent Carmen/ Violeta Loba

CONVENT CARMEN is a new cultural and gastronomic space born in the neighborhood of the same name, El Carmen of València. Located in the old Carmelite convent of St Joseph and St Theresa, Convent Carmen is defined as an open space both to the locals and newcomers, a convent open to the community where they can participate in different cultural and gastronomic events.

We have designed a logo in black and white, where the letter T is transformed into a cross through a neon green dot as a referential symbol to the physical space that once was a convent.
A brand with two versions (horizontal and vertical) to adapt itself to different application needs.

Thus we have a visual system dominated by the use of the reticle, typography, photography, positive and negative and a point of color. The color helps us separate the different areas: green for cultural events, red for everything related to their gastronomic offer, blue for the future hotel, etc.

The typographic family chosen for the development of the brand and the pieces is Commercial Type's Druk, sans serif and bold, in several versions, condensed or extended. As a complementary typography we have Schick Toikka's Chap, a classic but contemporary font that refers us to the reconversion of this religious space now open to the citizens.

CALMA VENTURES:
Calma Ventures is a company devoted to the creation and management of hotel, gastronomic and cultural projects with an international scope.

Calma Ventures is presented as a new way of doing business by developing projects with soul.

We worked on its brand architecture and based the development of its logo by analysing the name of the company. Beforehand, this would seem quite antagonistic, due to the meaning of each one of the words that make up the naming: CALMA (Spanish for “calm, quiet”) and VENTURES.

The word calma (in lowercase) reflects the company’s working approach: unhurryedly developed and well thought projects. On the other hand, ventures (in uppercase, italics, on a oblique box) refers to the action of enterprise, one that always involves risk and movement.

To reinforce the brand we used a bluish black for the main color as a reference to the values of CALMA, and another range of secondary colors for VENTURES.

The typeface chosen is Wigrum, from Production Type, a geometric, neuter and flexible type, able to adapt to all corporate applications.

In addition to the brand we designed a pattern based on the logo’s oblique box that serves as a complement of the brand in the different applications of brand extension.

CEN-CE is a project that is part of H2020, the largest research and innovation program of the European Union.

Its objective is to provide training and qualification to HVAC professionals (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) within the standards established by CEN-CE (CEN Standards Certified Experts EU) in terms of savings and energy efficiency in construction.

We created a brand that makes a clear and direct reference to construction systems. On the other hand, the chromatic range comes from the CEN-CE main topics: ventilation/cooling systems (blue), heating systems (red) and energy efficiency (green).

We also generated a series of illustrations representing the theme of the program that we used for the different pieces they needed to publicize the initiative and its development.
