My thoughts on this whole "GamerGate" thing(can we please stop with the X-gate term?):

As someone who has, largely, stayed out of the whole GamerGate fiasco but is very much interested in all things gaming, I think I'm in a fairly unique position to comment on the whole thing from a fairly objective standpoint.

What I've seen, from "sides" of the issue isn't heartening. From what I can see, it's largely two groups of people shouting past each other, attacking the other side for things A: they never said/did or B: some very tiny minority of them said/did.

If it comes down to "blame" or choosing a side, I suppose I have to side with the GamerGaters. That's not for any real philosophical connection or idea of moral superiority, but purely because of the aspect of authority and cohesiveness. Basically, much the same way that in the Palestine v. Israel issue, I tend to side with the Palestinians.

There are far fewer game journalists taking a side on this than there are people who identify with GamerGate. They're a far more cohesive group that has a greater ability to control their members. They also have absolute authority over the articles they write and the people who comment on them. On the other side of the aisle, we have thousands of completely disparate people with varying beliefs, with the only real cohesion being a general distrust of game journalists.

So, basically, my reasoning for blaming the game journalists just comes down to the fact that there's a cohesive body TO blame.

Blame aside, we now have a situation where the issue is becoming completely politicized and both groups are becoming radicalized. Dare to bring up potential issues with ethics in current game journalism and you're branded a misogynist bigot who hates gay people. Talk about the need for more representation of women/minorities in games/the gaming industry and you're a "SJW".

Either way you're shouted down with blind hatred. If you're lucky, you won't have your private information spread around the internet or get death threats. And, yes, I am leaving that open to both sides of the issue.

As many of you know, for the last couple years I've been working on a 3D space exploration and combat game titled "Sic Semper". Well, the time is (almost) here. I currently have Sic Semper on the Play store in beta(contact me for invites!). To sum it up:

In Sic Semper, you take the role of Captain Abraham, the captain of a secret ship built in the last days of the Ypetigan War and the last remnant of free humanity. Your task is to spread the human race by colonizing planets and to destroy the Ypetigan: an evil race that all-but wiped out the human race, enslaving what few they left alive.

Sic Semper features advanced 3D graphics and effects in a completely randomly generated sector of space, ensuring that each playthrough is unique. It also features 7 different types of ships, 6 types of weapons and 12 different ship and weapon upgrades for over 3 billion possible combinations, allowing full player customizability.
