If you’re looking for a small, attractive medieval town that’s not too far from Lisbon, try Óbidos. Most people go there as part of a day trip but I also enjoy the peaceful experience of staying overnight. As well as the various things to see and do in Óbidos itself, there are other attractions nearby including the gorgeous beaches at Foz do Arelho lagoon, so you could consider using it as a base for a longer stay if you have a car. #Portugal #travel #Obidos

This last installment is actually the first part of the journey for most people walking the central route from Porto to Santiago de Compostela but for various reasons, it was the final leg of a staggered #CaminodeSantiago for Dori and I.

A part of my “mop up Camino”, I spent 3 days in May walking the Coastal Portuguese Way of St. James from Vila do Conde to Caminha, on my own. I’d already completed a 4-day stint in Galicia between A Guarda and Redondela (where the coastal and central routes merge) so this was my chance to find out what the Portugal section is like. As with my other experiences of walking the Camino, I learned some valuable lessons. #CaminoDeSantiago
