First hockey game with the 7D Mk II. Have it coupled to a 70-200 non-IS and shooting through the glass. ISO 5000 1/800th and f2.8.

+RC Concepcion watched you and Scott do the review of the 7D Mark II yesterday and wanted to say that I think you bring great balance to Scott. I normally don't get the time to watch the Grid but after that I will try more often.

Secondly I laughed when a user stated that anything above ISO400 was unusable on an original 7D. There are totally different degrees of unusable and while for a wedding it might not be desirable, when you are shooting High School Football you tend to take what you can get. People need to remember that not all too long ago, you were shooting film and couldn't approach images that some people can get with digital today.

The shot below isn't the greatest. It was with a Canon 7D ISO6400 1/800 f2.8 and a Canon 70-200mm at 80mm (also cropped some and I don't have the most awesome of noise reduction skills)

No, it isn't the greatest and it won't get me in the sports shooters hall of fame but it will work in a newspaper for HS coverage. :-)

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams was doing a live radio interview when his drive to work took an unfortunate turn. Listen as the hit-and-run happens: http://bit.ly/1mCPIUv

Wanted to throw a couple of images up from last night. I rented a 7D Mark II to play with. I did not have the anti flicker mechanism on but I did have Auto Lighting Optimizing. Settings were AutoIso f2.8 1/800th typically. All 3 of these images were 12,800

No, I did no additional noise reduction. During the game things seemed to handle well. It felt good in my hands (needs battery grip for me though). I had it set for back button focus and it really seemed to hit focus very consistently and I did NOT take any time to adequately set the autofocus and set things to Case 4 I believe. I think with more time keeper rate would jump even more.

Couldn't use this one in the paper as the TD was called back for a holding call but great effort.

This example of athleticism is why I love sports photography!

Haven't been posting on here anywhere near as much as I should recently. Here is a shot from last week. The receiver (11) tipped the ball multiple times and eventually came away with the reception.

Story
Introduction

Full time I am a Project Engineer with Flushmate in New Hudson, Michigan designing pressurized flush systems for consumer toilets. I’ve been in the engineering arena since 1990. This is my second tour of duty designing toilets and I have also designed various automotive components as well as Automatic Teller Machines and Marine Controls

My second gig is as a freelance photographer shooting Sports, Theater, and Senior Portraits. Most recently I have been shootings high school sports as a stringer for both the Oakland County Press (http://www.miprepzone.com) and for the Tuscola County Advertiser on occasion. I have also done a few college basketball games for the University of Akron Zips and for the Concordia Ann Arbor Cardinals.

I have been married over 20 years now to my wife Mary who is a teacher/principal and have two children Caitlin (11) and Benjamin (9) who frequent these pages as models from time to time.

With the photography and the family, I don’t have an incredible amount of free time however I do like to participate in community theater with The Hartland Players and potentially with The Fowlerville Community Theater in the future.
