There's a lot of speculation that the free-to-play switch is a magic cure-all for ailing MMOs. In my latest blogpost, I explain why that isn't the case: http://www.manaobscura.com/2013/10/10/free-to-play-myth-or-miracle/

I don't think that SteamOS will kill PC gaming, mainly because it's designed to run on a PC. Conversely, I think it will have an impact on Windows gaming, particularly in the living room. Valve are essentially helping us shave $100 of licencing costs off having a second gaming box.

Whether it works long-term or not depends on how well Valve supports the ecosystem. But, as both publisher and developer, they're uniquely placed to identify and resolve those pain-points.

Either way, if I was Microsoft, I'd be looking at the development with keen interest.

I think it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Valve started down this road with Big Picture on Steam, so they obviously see some demand with extending this further. But, by basing it on Linux, most if not all of their work will be open source and no cost. But I can't see them gaining more share unless they present a compelling alternative to Microsoft.

You're right though - for those of us who only game on a single PC, but also use that machine for other tasks, it's difficult to see a need for it.

I blogged! WildStar shared more information on Shiphand Missions today, outlining them as flexible instanced content for between 1 and 5 players. Here's how I hope it'll work out: http://www.manaobscura.com/2013/09/25/wildstar-ship-shape-with-shiphands/

I blogged about WildStar's CREDD and how MMO crafting systems will need to evolve to make them a viable way to earn gold. http://www.manaobscura.com/2013/09/16/crafting-and-credd/

Best pizza delivery in Basingstoke. After trying the main alternatives of Dominoes and Pizza Hut, we eventually settled on Papa Johns as the best pizza in town. The dough they use is light and fluffy, particularly with the Deep Pan and Stuffed Crust options, and their toppings are always generous. While they might not have as many options as other places, they're definitely the most enjoyable. Side orders are fairly standard (ice cream and cakes for deserts; chicken, wedges and breads for savoury sides). They also use Coke rather than Pepsi for their drinks. It's worth using the website to place your order, rather than phoning it through. The main benefit is that you'll gain points to put towards free pizzas, but you can also experiment with their various offers to find out which one is best for your order. Can't argue with that!

Wagamama is one of those places that my wife and I visit to treat ourselves with. The food is served hot and fresh, and always tastes delicious. Whether it's the Ginger Chicken Udon, Chicken Katsu Curry or Chilli Beef Ramen, we've always enjoyed what we've eaten. Side dishes are also great, with Duck Gyoza being a particular favourite. Although we've eaten at the restaurant on several occasions, their takeaway service is also very good. Food is packaged in sturdy containers, together with chopsticks and napkins. They'll even allow you to phone ahead with your order for pickup later, making it very convenient to organise on the way home from the office.

I regularly use Mango Grove for their delivery service, usually about twice a month. Food is always delivered within their estimates and is always served hot. Portion sizes are excellent, and are delivered in sealed plastic containers - perfect for freezing or keeping for later. Mango Grove is one of the better curry houses in Basingstoke for taste, but is also more affordable and easy to order with. All of these combined have made it my curry house of choice. Note: I have never dined in the restaurant, so please consider this as a review of their delivery service only.
