#LGBT #Equality Worldwide: February 2013

Today was another great victory for equal rights, but we are not done yet. To put things in perspective, look at this map that shows where LGBT rights stand worldwide.  In blue countries, LGBT people already have equal rights, or are on the path to getting equal rights soon.  In a disturbing number of dark orange countries in Africa + Middle East, however, being gay may still get you the DEATH penalty, TODAY, in the year 2013.

My partner and I have stayed here several times since the hotel opened. Good rooms, but tried to check in a bit early today and the customer service we received was awful. There is a blond lady working the front desk who had the worst attitude. When we arrived at 10:00am we were told that our room was empty (the guest left at 9:30am), but still needed to be cleaned. We were allowed to use the spa and checked back with the front desk at 11:30am. The room still was not cleaned. We had lunch at the restaurant. Checked back at 12:30pm. The room still was not cleaned. Each time we checked we were greeted by the rotten attitude of the blond lady (wish I could remember her name). Long story short, my partner and I both travel weekly for work. We are both platinum Starwood Hotel members. We thought we would continue to support the boutique hotel, but decided it was not worth the harsh treatment we received. We left and checked into a Starwood property where we were greeted with a smile and upgraded to a suite overlooking Central Park.

Is the club violating new york fire code? They cram you in like sardines to where you cant even move. We made reservations for the restaurant way ahead of time but when we got there we were told to wait. Thats fine, but we waited way too long. They seem to overbook. Why accept reservations when you can't honor them? Definitely not a good time.

Some background info: I am staying here for my brother's wedding, my wife and I are staying for the night, and I have yet to stay here but will update my review after I do. I have called The Out three or four times to change my reservation plans. Every time, I have been on and off the phone in less than 5 minutes. Even better, the reservation gentleman that I talked to sends me a confirmation email with properly updated info within a minute of hanging up. I recently had to make a final change and they remembered my name and my email and had the new details over to me within minutes. The kicker is I had not talked to them in a month. They have been extremely impressive so far. I cannot wait to stay at my first 'straight-friendly' hotel.

the hotel is located right next to a club and the entire room vibrated from the music. I was still up at 4:00 AM Sleeping would not be the reason to check in at this hotel.

Amazing hotel, very modern, great location. Service could use a little more professionalism, it is a primarily gay hotel, but that doesn't mean everyone wants a catty attitude at the front desk.
