coreboot specific  -

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to solve the dreaded kernel incompatibility problem on my C710 chrUbuntu install where the newer 64bit Ubuntu versions (13, 14)don't work well with the latest stock ChromeOS kernel (3.4).

So, I was thinking to install John's Coreboot rom so I can get it to boot from the appropriate kernel. I tried the recompile steps from The Velvet Underscore's virtualbox thread, but the build always fails.

The one main question I have is about the ChromeOS partition, as I noticed in the wiki that it alludes that I cannot dual boot to it after flashing the coreboot rom.
Is there more information about this somewhere?
I'd like to, if possible, continue to use the ChromeOS I've already got installed on the ssd AND boot to Ubuntu as well. I'm already in developer mode so I'm not sure if that gets around the problem the wiki is alluding to since I don't understand the technical reasons why I can't pick the ChromeOS partition to boot from in Coreboot.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

At one point, ChromeOS for the C710 had I think kernel 3.8 in the development channel, but they ultimately went back to 3.4. When I was running Chrubuntu, I had issues with suspend and the mic, but I think cisgendered made patches to fix it. When I was running 13.10, I had issues with the splashscreen not showing up so I had to login blindly. I also had problems with the wifi consistently dropping and the bluetooth not working. These issues were kernel related because once I flashed coreboot and used the updated kernel, mostly everything worked. The only thing that would give me trouble is with the bluetooth (I am guessing from various posts that the driver is buggy) so I bought an Intel Centrino 6235 and now everything works. From what I understand, Chromium/ChromeOS devs really tweak the kernel to tailor it to a specific device and they trim things that they do not need such the setting for virtualization . When I was troubleshooting the wifi issues, I found out they renamed the wifi driver to something else, so the configuration file I had was not working and I had to rename the file to the name of the driver.

The version I am currently using is working well, but really the one from Oct works well too. As far as having kids not mess up the laptop, I am running a program called timeshift. It is similar to Window's System Restore. You could also run any other OS in a virtual box and limit access to the host computer. This little machine is pretty powerful, I have been able to run games on it without much of an issue.

Mental floss wasn't enough. A cup of bleach, maybe. Or some oxalic acid?

Reading nearby posts on g+ is always educating. It is very often strange to have such a raw view on perfect strangers random thoughts.

It's bad enough I have to go into the locker room at the gym and have the possibility of being exposed to naked men. <shudder>

A gigantic -1 for the forced Gmail themes.

I used the 'Ninja' theme and really enjoyed the color scheme and cute pictures of the ninja and geisha that changed at different times during the day. Now the color scheme is really hard to read and those cute pictures are gone.

C'mon Google, just when you do something cool, you do something completely boneheaded and blithely ignore your end users who have been complaining about the 'New Look' for months.

Loved this when I went to it when I was in China to get married. Wish I could be back there again.

Way to kick the Habs ass tonight Bruins! Good game, with a full 60 minutes of hockey. PP's sucked though, you gotta get more chances with 4 minutes!
