Use +GIMP to recover broken PSD's
Photoshop 0
Gimp 1
Trying to open an exercise by one of my students gave me an error.
Solution fire up GIMP, though the Smart obects and other specific Photoshop functions are obviously not there, they are being rendered to normal layers.
And so I was able to see his result. He passed ;-)

Ctrl-B gives a new toolbox with only tools, and nothing else. My toolbox usually also includes tool options, layer options, brushes tab, pallete tab etc.)
It doesn't restore the previous settings for toolbox. Which is quite annoying change.
Yes. There is window > restore last anchors, but Toolbox disappears from that list. Screenshot: http://shrani.si/f/2J/ET/1d1yEMm8/la0.png -- Sorry if it sucks.
Uh, and two more issues:
Digital painting — time lapse <-- aditionally, sometimes random squares start to appear (always when going too close to an edge.)
I also find new brush scale very impractical for painting details (brush size increases way too fast). I'd consider downgrading back to 2.6.8, 64-bit release if this version didn't offer really noticeable improvement in speed...)Jun 16, 2012
+Jon Waterschoot I guess Adobe is loosing focus a bit now days - look at all programs in their offer.. Some of them are really gimmick and quite frankly useless. They are trying too hard to get into tablets, producing some nonsense, counterproductive toys like "now you can navigate photoshop using i-pad" - and why would I want to do that? Its like using walkie-talkie while talking to person sitting in front of you.
Photoshop can now edit video (bloating Photoshop with no reason) but still dont have mirror painting known from Painter or OS soft like Alchemy, MyPaint, Krita... In CS6 they removed preview from open file dialog, trying to force people to use slow as a mule minibridge, that has to process whole catalog in order to show me icons... Damn man - some bad decisions are taken there.
Not to mention their overgrown pdf reader that I changed for super light and fast Sumatra - doing its job WAY better...
Adobe software is still pretty much standard in industry, but I wish they focused on development and stop bloating their programs. At the end - no idea why Photoshop cant recover its own file and 3rd party software can.Jun 16, 2012
To be honest, I use a really old version of PhotoShop and still find it really amazing!Jun 17, 2012
Oncredible. That is a paradox.Jun 17, 2012
Possibly 2:nil. GIMP = free. Photoshop = too much.Jun 20, 2012
+Tomás Escardó I concur with the 2:nil score.
Tomás is right: GIMP = liberty, Photoshop = too much restriction.Jun 20, 2012
