We've just released GIMP 2.9.8 with improvements and bugfixes. This is one of the last steps towards stable GIMP 2.10. Builds for Windows and macOS will be announced separately (when they are ready).

This one renders a satin-like texture, and has been inspired by this tutorial: https://fence-post.deviantart.com/art/Satin-Texture-in-GIMP-46937633

Upcoming GIMP 2.9.8 will feature a new display filter that visualizes underexposed and overexposed areas in an image. Clip Warning locates all pixels outside of 0..1.0 value range and thus only works for 16/32 bit per channel images with a floating point precision (not integer).

This new filter was programmed by Ell following a user's request in the mailing list. For now, we consider this to be a work-in-the progress feature, because we intend to make it easier to toggle this kind of visualizations.

New in the master branch: on-canvas gradient editing. You can now add, shift, and remove color stops, as well as set colors to them right on the canvas. When you choose the middle between two color stops, you can also choose a different blending type for that segment of the gradient.

The feature was added by Ell as the result of internal changes introduced by Michael Natterer. We shall release it as part of 2.9.8 later this year (or maybe even later this month).
