Online Sales Soaring

You had better put in a double order for those mailing bags as the ongoing rise and rise of online shopping just got bigger.

The ONS released figures last month showing that retail is booming as the retail industry increased by 2.3 per cent compared with March 2017 and by 4.0 per cent compared with April 2016. Many retailers claimed the good weather had been a boon, but online sales were a large driver of growth.

Online sales growth for all sectors was 19 per cent year on year, with supermarket’s driving a significant amount of that with 17.6 per cent year on year growth.
This was closely followed by textiles and clothing and household goods, which both showed double digit year on year growth.

Online spending accounted for 15.6 per cent of all retail spending, compared with 14 per cent in April 2016, showing that growth is still booming.
This growth in online sales means that there is much more demand for postage, as people shun the high street for online shopping instead.

Just a couple of years ago people were worrying that the postal service would die out as people turned from writing letters to relying on email instead. Yet no one saw the online retail boom that has seen not just the Royal Mail boosted, but also a wide array of different delivery firms.

No matter which one you pick for your business needs we can provide you with the best packaging to keep your customers happy no matter what.
