I just realized that the "suggest a dataset" feature on the State and City open data portals actually allows viewing and voting on the suggestions. I suggest you check them out!

With all this talk recently of UH budget woes I've been thinking of trying to do some analysis/visualization of the UH budget because I've been unable to find a decent break-down of the budget. There are some high-level presentations, but very little raw data. Here's one good example of high-level data:

http://manoa.hawaii.edu/ovcafo/pdf/FY15BudgetPresentation.pdf

These seem to be the main budget documents available but they are quite hard to parse (as well as all being PDF's!)

Here's an example of discussion on the UH budget recently (Civil Cafe):
http://www.civilbeat.com/2014/11/university-of-hawaii-officials-talk-budget-woes-at-civil-cafe/?cbk=546f9b8a6b76e

Especially I'd like to see a budget breakdown per department.

The Federal Government (data.gov) and Japan does it (data.go.jp), so I think Hawaii should use Creative Commons for their data portal as well!
I am sending around this petition to see if we can adopt Creative Commons licensing for the Hawaii Open Data portal. The portal is currently (c) State of Hawaii. CC0 or CC by 4.0 would make it much easier to access from a copyright standpoint. Thanks for your support!

Some progress on the Power Ballots

Github repo now has some content and a README:
https://github.com/CodeforHawaii/hawaii-power-ballot

We're looking for volunteers on the development side and on the data entry side (you can just do your own district). Here's an example of a district (only the first two candidates are fully filled in so far):

+Royce Jones I created a github repository for the power-ballot project:

https://github.com/CodeforHawaii/hawaii-power-ballot

I also created a github pages for it. To edit them, just edit the gh-pages branch:
http://codeforhawaii.github.io/hawaii-power-ballot/

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, see Royce's latest project:
http://gdsihawaii.com/powerballot_hip14/senate12.htm#

It is a semi-standardized format to include information about a candidate, some information about them and links to their web-pages and other sites like FollowTheMoney.

Does anyone know if the lawmakers allowances data is publicly available?

KHON made a search tool but I don't see any way to download the data.
