This weekend in literary New Orleans:
& Join Octavia Books at the Saturday Crescent City Farmers Market from 8:30 to 10:30 am for a special signing with food editor Judy Walker featuring the new 10th Katrina Anniversary commemorative edition of COOKING UP A STORM: Recipes Lost and Found from the Times-Picayune of New Orleans. This is the site of the first book signing when the original edition was published in 2008.
& At 11:30 am, Maple Street Book Shop will be hosting C. Carter Frank, the author of “The Adventurous NOLA Kids Go To the Ruined Mansion.” C. Carter Frank will be reading from and signing copies at the store. The Adventurous NoLa Kids have found their first adventure! Join Jacob, Theresa, and Noah as their curiosity leads them to a ruined mansion in New Orleans. Years ago the mansion was one of the city’s most enjoyable places, until the parties suddenly stopped. The mansion is now barely standing and the grounds are so disheveled that no one ever visits! What happened to the mansion? Can it be repaired? Follow The Adventurous NoLa Kids and discover how teamwork leads to miracles
& At 4 pm Saturday the Spoken Word Weekly Workshop for Teens at the Nix Library. Studying the work of contemporary poets and spoken word artists, teens will focus on imagery, metaphor, narrative, and other important devices as they create their own written work. The workshop is led by Sam Gordon, a spoken word artist and educator based in New Orleans.
& Sunday at 2 p.m. please join Octavia Books when Don Brown, author/illustrator of the graphic narrative DROWNED CITY: Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans, will discuss and sign his book. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
