The 2015 Boston Marathon - A Return to Glory
The 2015 Boston Marathon was a return to glory in many ways, and a welcome one at that. For the first time in two years, the chatter among the chilly 30,000+ runners in the starting area tents returned to the familiar topics of weather strategies, expected ...

Speed and Sun At The 2015 Presidio 10-Mile/RRCA 10-Mile National Championship
Yesterday, I joined 4,000+ runners at Crissy Field in San Francisco, CA, to soak in the sun and enjoy the challenging course of the Presidio 10-Mile road race.  This was my fourth running of this hilly and fast route around the Presidio and Golden Gate Brid...

Hit By A Deer....REVENGE!
A couple weeks back, I hit a deer while driving my car home late at night. Messed up my car, but not nearly as much as it messed up the deer. I felt terrible. Day before yesterday, the neighborhood deer pack got me back. I was cruising along the single trac...

Scenes from the 2015 Woodside Trail Half Marathon (Envirosports)
I was excited to find the 25th annual Envirosports Woodside Trail Half Marathon going on in my backyard (aka, Huddart Park) yesterday. Lots of smiles! I got a few photos with my iPhone as they ran by (runners and RD's welcome to photos), which was wonderful...

The Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii
I stole away for an afternoon on Kaua'i, Hawaii, to run/hike the 11-mile Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast this last week.  Although the trail was quite technical (often too technical or overgrown to run), it was a worthy adventure! The Kalalau Trail is...

New 100-Mile PR at the 2015 Rocky Raccoon 100m/USATF Championships
“Oh my God, I think I’m going to be sick,” said the runner next to me in the starting chute of the 2015 Rocky Raccoon 100-Mile Run (RR100) last Saturday morning. Thirty seconds to start…it’s the last time your brain allows you to absorb the entirety of the ...

I've Stolen the Injinji Instagram Account!!!
The gang at Team Injinji has, perhaps foolishly, let me take over their Instagram account  for the Boston Marathon weekend. They call it a #toetakeover. Follow along, or come find me if you are here! 😇

Scenes From the BayTrailrunner Whiskey Hill Redwood Half Marathon
About 90 runners braved an early morning rain in Huddart Park to run the BayTrailrunners Whiskey Hill Redwood Run Half Marathon/10k , and I got a few pics. You are all welcome to them! (New teepee on the Chinquapin Trail) (The amazing Allen Lucas! Love this...

Sunny Smiles At The 2015 Marin Ultra Challenge 25k
It was a postcard-worthy sunny morning in Sausalito, CA, as I lined up with 350+ runners for Inside Trail Racing's Marin Ultra Challenge 25k last Saturday. We have had many of these perfect California weekends lately (sorry Bostonians), but I still feel lik...

Marijuana, Cannabis, and Weed - One Athlete's Primer
There are few things in life that I enjoy as much as a runner’s high . That natural buzz that kicks in ~80 minutes into a run as my body slips into a primordial rhythm, my soul bonding with Mother Nature as she whirls around me and fills my lungs and senses...

Are Ultramarathoners Getting High? (Wall St Journal)

A Wet and Wily 2015 Redding Marathon
There is something delectably pure about a small, local marathon. Runners know every runner/volunteer on the course, aid stations are stacked with homemade goodies, a hearty "go!" sends everyone off, and puppies are given away as prizes (okay, just one this...

Story

Trail runner, tech exec, entrepreneur.
Introduction
I'm a technology entrepreneur who took up trail running and triathloning back in 2001 to get off the work treadmill and see a bit more of the outdoors. I also love to eat, so the exercise helps me justify those extra helpings. ;oP I'm always interested in learning more about trail running - please comment and link away!
