GOOD BYE APRIL YOU WERE PRODUCTIVE BUT EXHAUSTING
Everyone who has anything to do with autism activism or other kinds of associated consciousness-raising tends to get steamrolled by April. Not only during the month itself, but in the weeks leading up to Everything Autism-And-April-Related. It certainly doesn't leave much space for personal ...

How autism researchers (and autism research) can benefit from listening to autistic people and their families. My viewpoint at Spectrum News:

Scientists should phrase their findings to be sensitive to the dignity and needs of people with autism.

I am in denial about Iz and her cousin Danielle graduating from high school next week. And both going to colleges that, while still in this time zone, are also not very close by. Our girl has chosen to spend her last official summer at home working a lot, and also going to a few concerts.

How #autistic girls get blamed & shamed—instead of supported & understood. My latest, @BlogHer: http://www.blogher.com/how-can-we-do-better-our-autistic-girls #autism
Autism is different for girls, and not only because fewer girls than boys get autism diagnoses. Autistic women and girls not only tend to have different traits than autistic boys do, but are also socialized differently -- leading to many of those girls being overlooked or misdiagnosed well into adulthood, and leading most of their life without the supports that could have made their lives much easier. It gets even more complicated when autistic g...

Our cat was attacked by a bobcat and not expected to fully recover, and possibly not even walk. Yet thanks to the expert and compassionate care from the good folks at North Peninsula, she not only recovered from her wounds but recovered full range of motion in her neck and legs, and you'd never know she'd been injured. We are very grateful for the detail-oriented, caring staff and the care they gave our sweet girl.
