I've worked in customer service for over a decade and I thought I'd seen it all, but I haven't seen and heard anything this outrageous in my entire career what I've experienced this evening.

The Barista Deborah took my order and I asked if I could have it in a mug since the order was to stay, and she said okay sure like it was no big deal. I sat down with my boyfriend to have the hot chocolate and cupcake while we waited for his coffee which was going to be a while. Not even 1-minute after he received his coffee, she come out from behind the counter and rudely says, we're closing.  We thought, okay that was strange but let it go, whatever. And then I told my boyfriend to ask for a to-go cup as I had already finished my drink. He asked and she made a rude comment saying that she was trying to put it in a cup when we ordered. No she wasn't. She wanted to put mine in a cup, and that wasn't necessary because I in fact, did finish it within 5 minutes.

Then the crazy commotion with the group who was sitting in there started. They were a really nice group of people and polite. She started yelling at them and said, I told you we're closed, get out! It was nuts. She started calling them names and I just couldn't believe it.

Having worked in customer service, I could even understand a little bit if the customers (including us) were being unreasonable or rude, but no one was. She just served them their food and drinks. How can she yell at them to leave right after serving?! She should have told them, and us, that dine-in service is closed and that she'd be happy to take our orders to-go. She could have lied and said that. No one would have thought oddly about that. I can never go back to this place after what happened. It was mortifying.

Our first cafe opened in 1996 on Irving Place in the garden level of a historic Gramercy brownstone. From our beginnings as 52 Irving Coffee & Tea Bar to the beautiful space just up the block that we know now as our 71 Irving Place cafe, this is truly where Irving Farm all began.

Steps from Union Square, and our Manhattan headquarters and training lab, this cozy escape from the urban rush offers our full line of craft coffees, as well as teas, sandwiches, salads, our house-made baked goods, and more. Beer and wine are also available.

I went here after the refurbishments. I don't know how it was before, but the space is stylish and understated. It's in a half-basement, but it doesn't feel that way - there's still plenty of light and air. There is a lot of seating available and the coffee is tasty, especially the Americano. I haven't sampled much of the food, but I had a zucchini flax muffin, which was nicely done. Great place to sit for a while.

Coffee is overpriced and under flavored , loud and busy with very little choice. Won't be back anytime soon

This is my favorite coffee place within easy walking distance of Union Square (and my office). It can be super crowded sometimes so I wouldn't come here with a group, and getting a table can be a gamble. But the lattes are top notch, and the baked goods are pretty great too. I had a molasses ginger cookie that was so soft and chewy it may have ruined other cookies for me. I haven't tried much of the savory food except the quiche, which was fine but not amazing. I really just go here to take a break with a really solid cup of coffee.

This must be the worst coffee house in Manhattan! The staff is in bizarrely rude, the prices very high, and this is the cherry on the cake: When I asked for a splash of milk for my coffee I was told they would charge me! Yes, there is no milk to be found, as this precious item is kept safely behind the counter. They didn't even fill my cup to the top (my iced coffee was a little more than half full). I will NEVER go back to this ridiculous place again.

Best coffee in a 10 block radius. Even better bagels. Great staff
