On this day, in 2013, Bolton moved into the Championship play-off places as a result of a 2-1 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Little over two months since they found themselves three points above the relegation zone, Wanderers moved up to 6th in the table courtesy of a 2nd minute own-goal from Liam Fontaine and a 79th minute penalty from Craig Davies. Steve Davies had earlier brought City level in the 49th minute.

Bolton would go on to finish 7th that season, missing out on the play-offs by virtue of goal difference, while Bristol City finished bottom and were subsequently relegated to League One.

On this day, in 2004, Kevin Davies scored deep into stoppage time to give Bolton a memorable 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Henrik Pedersen had headed Bolton into a 43rd minute lead, but it would last little more than 60 seconds as Henri Camara equalised for Wolves from the next attack.

The game looked set to end all-square, until Davies latched on to a Kevin Nolan pass in stoppage time and fired into the bottom corner to send the travelling supporters home with smiles on their faces

On this day, in 1998, Bolton gave their Premiership survival hopes a boost with a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers went into the game in 18th position and claimed the points with goals in each half from Dean Holdsworth and Bob Taylor. Damien Duff equalised for Rovers in between those two strikes, but it was Colin Todd's side who won the bragging rights.

Jason Wilcox was sent off for Blackburn in the closing stages.

On this day, in 1993, Bolton were 4th in Division Two after goals from Tony Kelly and Andy Walker gave them a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at Springfield Park.

Just 5,408 people turned out to see the game, which was decided by goals from Kelly and Walker - the first of which is still fondly remembered by Wanderers supporters today.

Bruce Rioch's side would go on to win promotion at the end of the campaign, finishing as runners-up to Stoke City, while Wigan were relegated to the fourth tier of English football.

"I'd imagine there's going to be a restructure off the field and certainly in the playing squad, that needs restructuring as well. From the games I've seen, I think we need to have a more athletic group of players. I think that will be the key next year and will be the basis of any changes to the squad."
